"popmatters"

(Bitch has made one of the) “noteworthy albums released by women artists in 2006, largely overlooked by the Grammy nominations....(This) charismatic artist creates a vivid sonic tapestry, woven beautifully with lyrical threads that shift between the deeply personal to the more politically provocative.” - popmatters

Bio

BEACH is an indie-electro band, fronted by the artist also-known-as Bitch, who is known for her electric violin and electric performances.

On stage, she is joined by Alligator who triggers beats via what they call "the machine."

BEACH makes hopeful, sometimes funny and poetically serious dance-y rock.

Bitch (born Karen Mould) started classical violin at 4, and later expanded her musical horizons by studying fiddling with Andrew Bird. She first burst onto the scene when her band, Bitch and Animal, toured with Ani Difranco in the U.S. and Europe and released two albums on Difranco’s label, Righteous Babe Records. She starred as herself in the John Cameron Mitchell film Shortbus, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Bitch went on to release her first solo album Make This Break This on the legendary indie Kill Rock Stars.

In 2008, she started her own label, Short Story Records and released an ep B+TEC! with her Brooklyn-based rock trio Bitch +The Exciting Conclusion. That same year, Bitch produced and released an entire album of one of her musical idols, Ferron, called “Boulder.” “Boulder” features performances by such luminaries as Ani Difranco, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls, JD Samson, (Le Tigre, MEN) and Samantha Parton (The Be Good Tanyas).

Bitch has just completed Thunder, a documentary about the folk-singer Ferron, with film-maker Billie Jo Cavallaro (Billie and the Violent Kids)
