Bio

Amy K Bormet is a talented jazz pianist and vocalist performing in Washington, DC after graduating from the University of Michigan with a BFA in Jazz Studies/Piano Performance, where she studied with Geri Allen and Ellen Rowe. Amy previously graduated from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where she performed in legendary D.C. saxophonist Davey Yarborough's New Washingtonians Jazz Orchestra.
Amy's infectious voice and keys have appeared everywhere you can find jazz, from the White House to local jazz bars. Some of her frequent performances include HR-57 Center for Jazz Preservation, Ellington’s on Eighth, and Market Inn. During her first decade of jazz, Amy has performed with, among others, Terrell Stafford, Marian McPartland, and D.C. Legend Buck Hill. In addition to playing her own original works, Amy's jazz trio brings a youthful interpretation to jazz standards, including those by Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, and Frank Sinatra. Among Amy's influences are Blossom Dearie, Shirley Horn, and Nat King Cole.
Amy spent the 2006-2007 school year at her alma mater, Duke Ellington School of the Arts leading their Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Fellowship Program. She also enjoys teaching voice and piano at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop and the Washington Jazz Arts Institute.
