Bio

Born and raised in Milwaukee, the 25 year old, smooth R&B crooner known as BJ has come a long way from the middle school kid who was sure he would play in the NBA someday. BJ knew he could sing and he enjoyed singing, but his love was basketball. He grew up singing in the church choir and when he was 9 years old his parents realized he had a special talent. When he was 11, they decided to enroll him in Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts to nurture his talent but he still couldn’t give up on his first love…basketball.

When BJ was 15 he decided that he probably wouldn’t grow tall enough to excel in basketball so he started focusing more on his talent as a singer and songwriter. Helping him with this decision was his cousin, Lance, who worked as a manager for the Atlanta based Noontime Records. Lance moved BJ to Atlanta where he got his professional start as a member of the group Reign. At the time, members of the group Jagged Edge were writing songs for Reign but they were particularly impressed with BJ’s innate vocal ability.

BJ’s stint with Noontime Records didn’t pan out and he started to wonder if he should give up on trying to make it in the music business. Whenever he felt like throwing in the towel his mother would always encourage him to keep working. She assured him that if he just kept pushing through the difficult times his dream would come true. The birth of BJ’s two daughters (Tailer, 5 and London, 3) and the constant motivation from his mother have inspired him to keep working toward his goal of becoming a successful recording artist.

Although BJ’s experience with Noontime Records didn’t work out he was able to meet the group Jagged Edge and their influence has helped mold him into the phenomenal talent he is now. The twins of Jagged Edge have embraced BJ as their little brother and he continues to work with them on some of his current projects. BJ is not only an incredible vocalist, he also writes most of his own lyrics along with his writing partner Rico Love. BJ has recorded with some of today’s hottest producers including, Jazze Pha, the Corna Boys, Jagged Edge and Petey Pablo.

While pursuing record deals with various record labels, BJ’s CD landed in the hands of Damon Kimes, CEO of the Atlanta based record label Regatta Records. Damon made BJ the first artist on his label and they are tirelessly working to complete his debut album which is scheduled for release Fall 2007.

BJ was invited to performed at the Juneteenth Celebration in Little Rock, AR (hosted by Power 92.3 FM) on June 15, 2007. His current single, "Hook, Line & Sinker", is a receiving considerable airplay on Urban radio stations in the south.

"BJ is the next big R&B star/ sensation. He has great stage presence and the ladies love his vocal skills ,and his ability to display range in his voice as he showed at our annual Juneteenth celebration definetly off the chain!!!"
