Another Norwester at Possum Point

Written By: Brian J. Dooley

Another Norwester at Possum Point
by Brian J. Dooley

John drives a Mini with bits of airplane on top
Fuselage sticking out ahead and behind
There's a police cruiser pursuing him
Inquiring into his state of mind.

The airplane parts go through an open window
Into bedroom number two of his batch
His little dog glubglub is guarding the site
While he brings the pieces back

Another nor'wester blows through Canterbury
And shudders the windows at Possum Point, yes it does
Another nor'wester rips through Canterbury
And shudders the windows at Possum Point

While John is building his jet airplane inside
Trevor's garden, see how well it has grown
He carefully watches all his cannabis plants
And never strays too far from home

Helicopters flying low over Possum Point
Can’t find a trace of all the plants on the ground
That’s 'cause Trevor keeps them alive indoors
With an old fluorescent that he's found

Another nor'wester….

Meanwhile Ned jogs along the beach
Till a Rottweiler chases him, through the trees
To the owner, who is running just behind
Ned says get your dog off me please, won't you please.

As the dog is releasing his leg
Comes a clatter and a thundering down the track
A mounted woman narrowly misses him
Yelling “Yippy-yi-aye” from horseback.

Another nor'wester….

Jane heads out when the sun goes down
To steal horse poop from the stable down the road
She'll spread it out all over her vegetable patch
Then be back for another load.

She is selling her veggies at a roadside stall
To buy the food for all the cats that she’s found
There must be at least a dozen or so
And they’re roaming everywhere around

Another nor'wester…..

The fish are jumping now along the beach
Everyone grabs a pole and heads for the strand
But after only 4 or 5 hours or so
The only thing caught is kelp and sand

So for the good citizens of Possum Point
Another day closes, and new day must begin
John is off early after more airplane parts
And the helicopters pass through again.

Another nor'wester…..

Another nor'wester…..

Tereza Cristina

Tereza Cristina
by Brian J. Dooley

Tereza, Tereza Cristina
Boa tarde, boa noite, bom dia
O sol e crescendo, o céu e azul
Vem, viajar comigo, menina!

Vamos visitar no espaço
As planetas, asteróides e cometas
O barco esta perto, foguete inflamado
Vou navegar este nave espacial

Tereza, Tereza....

Vamos visitar sob o mar
Com os peixes, os polvos, os tubarões
Tenho submarino aqui, vou consigo entrar-lhe
Olhando coisas novas para contar

Tereza, Tereza...

Vamos visitar meio do ar
Com as aves e as gotas de chover
Tenho avião pequeno, vamos sair, vem comigo
E sente como faz a voar!

Tereza, Tereza...

English Translation
(Apologies—bloody difficult, and sounds like crap with this type of song, but you get the idea)

Tereza, Tereza Cristina
Good afternoon, good night, good day!
The sun is rising, the sky is blue
Come take a journey with me, girl

Let us go visit in space
The planets, asteroids and comets
The ship is ready, rockets ignited
I will navigate this spaceship

Tereza, Tereza....

Let’s travel beneath the sea
With the fish, octupii and sharks
I have a submarine here, I will enter it with you
Looking at all the new things to notice

Tereza, Tereza...

Let us visit in mid air
With the birds and drops of rain
I have a small airplane, let’s go, come with me
And see how it feels to soar!

Tereza, Tereza...

Susan on the Strand

Written By: Brian J. Dooley

Susan on the Strand
by Brian J. Dooley

Forests of sunlight shining through her emerald eyes
Reflecting back their brightness to the cloudless skies above her
Soft and gentle breezes blowing through her golden hair
She sits to watch the surf roll in without a care about her

Just what introspective thoughts go through her open mind
That leave their echo like the starlight's burning shine around her
And what is she thinking as she looks out to the sea
Does she think of gulls that fly around so free before her

Many years have passed since I saw Susan on the strand
She’s gone and I have gone, and all the world is moving on
Now sometimes I wonder if I’d said something back then
But there were things to do and not a lot of time to do them.

Now the sun is setting spreading darkness on the land
I watch her rise up with her knees upon the sand below her
Presently she waves to go, remembering the time
She leaves the twilight ocean's frothing foaming shine behind her
