All I Ever Got from You (All the Hell...)

Written By: Brenda Jean Searcy

Verse 1:
There was music in your laughter--
There was sunshine in your smile;
And in my body there were feelings
I hadn’t known for quite a while...

Then you took my hand and told me:
“There can be no compromise;”
And it was hell not to be with you--
When I saw heaven in your eyes...

Chorus 1:
All the hell, none of the heaven--
That’s what I’m goin’ through.
Do I need to be forgiven
Because I fell in love with you?
Hey I can look, but I can’t hold you;
Oh God, what am I gonna do?
All the hell, none of the heaven--
If I could only be with you....

Verse 2:
Though you knew how much I loved you,
You spoke such tender words to me;
That, though I knew it wouldn’t change things,
I hoped somehow our love could be....

When your world came crashin’ ‘round you
And all those words turned into lies;
You laid the wreckage at my doorstep
And never even said “goodbye...”

Chorus 2:
All the hell, none of the heaven--
That’s what you put me through.
And I don’t need to be forgiven,
Hey--I was always true to you.
Yeah, I got all the blame and heartbreak
Of things I never got to do.
All the hell, none of the heaven--
That’s all I ever got from you.

All the hell, none of the heaven--
I guess you’d say that to me, too...

I'm Better Off Without You

Written By: Brenda Jean Searcy & David Paul Sturtevant

Verse 1:
Before I fell in love with you
My life was A-OK.
Had ever’thing I needed ‘til you
Swept it all away.

I lost my job, my home, and I’ve got
Miseries galore....
But I’m better off without you than I ever was before!

Chorus 1:
You left me cryin’.
You left me lonesome.
You tore my heart out--
Whatd’ya do that for?

But there’s a silver linin’
In my cloud-filled sky
‘Cuz I’m better off without you than I ever was before!

Verse 2:
The sweetest things in life can sometimes
Come as a surprise.
You tossed me off a cliff--
That’s how I found out I could fly!

Ya thought I’d crash and burn but darlin’
You should see me soar!
‘Cuz I’m better off without you than I ever was before!

Chorus 2:
You left me cryin’.
You left me lonesome.
Said I was ugly--
Whatd’ya do that for?

But there’s a happy endin’
To this tragedy--
‘Cuz I’m better off without you than I ever was before!

Bridge:
They say I oughta hate you for the wicked way you done me
When you blew my little world to smithereens.

But I wish you only sunshine--I’m forever grateful to ya
For promotin’ me to CEO of my own dreams......

Chorus 3:
And I’ve stopped cryin’.
And I’m not lonesome.
Used to pray you’d come back--
Whatd’I do that for?

Gonna send you flowers
Thankin’ you for leavin’ me--
‘Cuz I’m better off without you than I ever was before!

Yes, I’m better off without you than I ever was before!
(For sure!)

Paw Paw Tree

Written By: Brenda Jean Searcy

Years ago, I broke the earth and blessed it with a song.
I took a tiny seedling--placed it right where it belonged.
I nurtured it with all my heart, my precious, growing tree.
And I waited patiently--
For the luscious fruit from off my paw paw tree.

Years you'd grown together, then I happened by your way.
Like the fragrance of a flower, your lover took my breath away.
Unwittingly exuding beauty--wafting on the air.
And my heart lay open, bare.
And she paused to hold me in my agony.

I dreamed that I could love her and that your love would remain--
That such a boundless vessel all our passions could contain.
I saw the rings, and then I saw desire in her eyes
That she could not justify,
So the consummation never was to be.

The mighty storm, the fury--the chrysalis torn apart.
I did not understand the burning rage from out your heart.
I'd never seen the eyes of hatred staring into me;
Then a thought occurred to me--
How I'd fight like hell to save my paw paw tree.

But a woman's not a creature you can plant like tree or vine.
A woman is possessed of her own heart and soul and mind.
She is neither mine nor yours--how frightening it must be;
So go on and rage at me,
As alone I gaze upon my paw paw tree.
