Black Hell Oil

Black Hell Oil is a stoner rock band from Saskatoon, Canada who is a punch in the mouth to the music scene. We have been compared to Sleep and Kyuss live with the fury of Motorhead.

Chad Mason and Richard Boucher who went to the same school years ago were looking to play in a new band that was going in a new direction from the scene. That direction was a raw, tuned- down...loud project that would create a buzz in the scene. What came out was a tuned-down stoner rock band with a hint of boogie and sludge.

Shortly after starting and jamming on a regular basis the opportunity came up to record and have Ian Blurton (Change of Heart and C'mon fame) produce and record the project. Shortly after that Black Hell Oil hit the clubs playing as often as possible. After a little over a year later they parted ways with the drummer they were playing with and picked up Damian McCullough from the band that Richard left to join BHO. Since then they chose to re-record the material using Damian on drums. After many months of recording and mixing they released Smoke You Up a 5 song recording that was an instant hit locally after release at a show on January 3, 2014.

Black Hell Oil has recently been put into rotation on 2 radio stations in the UK being www.eghradio.com also on Tune In Radio, and www.radionorthumberland.com generating positive feedback being reported back by the people at the stations. We have also been put into rotation on www.420radio.org with Urb Thrasher on his show the flower hour.

Black Hell Oil has played Alberta and Saskatoon shows with Public Animal (featuring Ian Blurton), Shooting Guns, Black Thunder, and Dusty Tucker and many others. They will continue to write and record. They will also be looking perfecting an already powerful live show by playing as much as possible, and looking to play as many festivals around Canada and into the United States as possible during the summer of 2014.

Taking the crunch and crackle of a workhorse tube amp and running it to within inches of blowing up, Black Hell Oil take their cues from vintage stoner metal rock riffs and give them a good pounding. But while the sound is rooted in sludge there is also an element of groove amidst the bludgeoning rhythms.
