For the past nine years, audiences have been captivated by the handpicked delicacy, BlackberryJam. Original compositions and unique arrangements create a unique experience with each show. Performances at Indiana’s top venues including The Vogue, The Patio, Casba, Birdy’s, Radio Radio and Indiana University, Purdue University as well as opening for national recording artist Ebony Rhythm Funk Campaign and the ultra funky cool Van Hunt confirm BlackberryJam’s eminence on the Midwest music scene. Being asked to join De La Soul onstage during their July 31 concert in Indianapolis further validated the band’s place in this industry. Influenced in equal parts by soul, mindful hip-hop and pure, unadulterated funk, BlackberryJam shares their vision of true artistry. After seven years of hard work and over 500 (no really, LKC, how many performances?) performances throughout the Midwest, BlackberryJam released their debut CD, “It’s a Beautiful Thing” in 2004. An eclectic blend of funk and hip-hop, the group uses music as an avenue for social awareness. Packed full of conscious and uplifting lyrics and soul shaking beats, the CD features collaborations with some of the most promising artists in the Midwest... not to mention one the greatest funk minds to come out of Indy Jumbo Shrimp. The 6 piece instrumental ensemble blends a rich love of hip-hop and timeless funk with an alternative aesthetic. Lyricist C-Blak has received acclaim for his production skills as well as his verbal stylings. Known for bringing the quiet storm, he is a beautiful surprise, bringing his knowledge and life experiences to the forum for your edification. Emcee Solar-P, is a veteran of the mic and one of the most well known and respected lyricists in the Midwest. When he's not delivering hypnotic rhymes onstage, Solar stays active changing the landscape of his community through creating social awareness. The “architect of the set”, Poncho has endured the forging of BlackberryJam and has come out polished. His meticulously crafted rhythms become the heartbeat of the set bridging the addictive beats, soulful strumming and conscious assonance. It's the onstage synergy between the vocalists, the dynamic of a tight band and the group's dedication to intelligent but entertaining hip-hop that helped BlackberryJam become one of Indianapolis’ most sought after acts. The band's perserverance has allowed them to receive praise from every club owner;promoter, and bands alike which BBJ has had it's pleasure working with. Blackberry Jam was seized the "golden" opportunity to be the lone opening act for 2006 Grammy Awards performer Van Hunt when he made his second visit to Indy @ the ever so respectful Birdy's venue.
