BLACK BIKINI ALPHA

BLACK BIKINI ALPHA

BandAlternativeRock

Electro punk-rock. Mixing the energy and attitude of the best punk-rock bands (Clash, Pistols etc.) with electronica (think MGMT, D.I.A.YYeah?). Add an angry young Bowie on vocals and the musical dexterity of Radiohead and you have Black Bikini Alpha.

Biography

When trying to break up a fight that had erupted in a local pub where “O” used to promote gigs, he wondered for a moment whether there was an easier way to make a living - the response was a resounding NO. Music was the only living that he wanted to make.

Even a band trip to New York organised by an obsessed fan who turned out to be a schizophrenic wasn't enough to quell his passion for music. It's just all part and parcel of being in a band!

After a few false starts with a powerpop, thrash punk band "O" decided he wanted to deliver something more than a 2-chord cynical rant on speed. He met Darren at a local rehearsal studio and they played in various different bands together for the next few years. When their old singer left and other band members drifted off “O” decided to try his luck at singing and they became the duo, Black Bikini Alpha.

The band morphed into an electro-punk rock outfit, brought together over a love of gritty, hard hitting but uplifting music. For them, it’s about the songs and making that important connection with people – on record and live.

The songs are inspired by growing up, living and working in London. The themes are wide ranging from, describing post-7/7 tension in ‘London Town is Falling Down’ through to the importance of hope in times of adversity on ‘Reason To Believe’, and down to the late night underworld sleaze of ‘Dance Like A…’. Their song ‘Swag’ was released on a US compilation last month and is now on rotation on Californian Radio. Their anthemic song about sexual experimentation ‘Kicking and Screaming’ was included in the ‘BEST OF’ selection on the BBC6 Music Tom Robinson show and has also been picked up by
DC Shoes for an online advertising campaign. They’ve been touring UK extensively in support of their debut single release and have been interviewed by Kerrang!, BBC Bristol and BBC Cambridge amongst many others, along the way.

Black Bikini Alpha’s energetic and evocative live show has earned them main support slots with Fun Lovin’Criminals, Reef and Feeder. They also spent a few weeks gigging in New York which was organised by an obsessed fan who turned out to be a schizophrenic. All part and parcel of being in a band!

Catch them now before they explode and say you were there at the beginning….

Lyrics

Kicking and Screaming

Written By: Eoin Dilworth, Darren Hancock and Michael Horan

Yes or no?
I wanna find out, if I can get an answer
If I can I long, I long, to go to bed a king, and get a crown but I am…

Kicking and Screaming, Kicking and Screaming
I’m all outta love, I should be wishing and dreaming
Kicking and Screaming, Kicking and Screaming
I’m all outta looooove

Sleeper, sleeper…
Wake up kid, come on, k-k-k-kick everywhere,
A guy, a girl, a boy together….
Come one…. you know it’s better when you’re…

Chorus….

Come to bed and I will set you free, my loooove
Come to me, not just forever, but tonight, be mine……..

Chorus

I wanna know the reason… I wanna know the reason
Why… I long,…I long…. to go to bed a king, and get a crown,
And now a girl…. a guy… a boy, together….come on!
I wanna know the reason why

London Town Is Falling Down

Written By: Eoin Dilworth

London town is falling down
Preacher’s hook has hit our ground
People running all around….avoiding eye contact

A moral man is lost today
To animals that are here to stay
Locked away but still a threat in my home…

London town is falling down
Under the weight of its frown
Another life lost to a worthless crime oh oh

Run, run, don’t run away
Walk, walk, don’t walk away
Run, run, don’t run away
Don’t lose your place

Worms feed the monster every day
As the clocks tick tock, we lose our face
To the rat race, to the rat race
Oh……oh……

Don’t lose your place
Don’t lose your face
Oh, oh…I see despair in your eyes
And silent smiles (and violent smiles)

HEY, HOPE…DON’T GO….HEY, HOPE…DON’T GO ….

Run, run, don’t run away
Walk, walk, don’t walk away
Run, run, don’t run away
Don’t lose your place
