Blackcaps

Fall leaves swish and crunch as Tim approaches the porch with guitar case in hand. Joe is standing on the steps, leaning into the side of the house talking with Pat about current goings on. As the three step inside the television mixes with the hollow drone of two skateboarders rolling past. The conversation continues above as the creaking floorboards give way to the muffled stomping of shoes on the carpeted steps leading to the basement. Past the paint cans, beyond the furnace, Pat takes a seat behind his kit in a small corner of the aged gray basement. Instruments are readied, amplifiers are warmed. Glancing over at a crumpled piece of paper, they discuss and decide. A couple knowing nods, and a calm "I'm ready".
The Blackcaps are a three piece rock band from the rural former industrial town of Cortland, New York. Rock and roll, some dust and twang, some pop and soul, call what it whatever you want. The Blackcaps aren't trying to blow any minds, or sound like band x meets band y or anything like that. It's not contrived, it's not scripted and it's never faked.
Can it be that simple? For the Blackcaps it is.
