"Review of Black Cat Attack's "Lonely Horror Stories""

By Josh Burton -TMSU

Black Cat Attack is a three piece good ole horror rock ‘n’ roll band that knows how to make some really catchy tunes. The band is from Oshawa, Ontario. The band is made up of Valerie Knox, Bryan Dickface, and Darcy Fletcher. The first time I heard their song “Lonely Horror Stories”, I found myself tapping my foot to the beat and when the song broke into the chorus that’s when I knew this band had what it took to make some great tunes.

The album starts off with a creepy intro that is sure to grab any fan of horrors attention, its what caught my attention. After that the songs just continue to get better. I think my favorite song off this album would have to be “UR2DED4ME”. There is just something about the chorus and the beat of it that makes me play drums on my desk. I personally can’t wait to hear what this band has in store for the future! If you haven’t listened to them yet, give them a listen. - Terror Music Scene Unite

"E.P. REVIEW: BLACK CAT ATTACK - Vamparty"

by: Charlie J.J. Kruger

This EP is some rocking good fun. Its nice to hear a female fronted horror band that isn’t doing everything int heir power to sound exactly like The Spookshow. This band has a quality that is hard to exactly identify, and I am having a hard time drawing a fair comparison with any other bands I know of... but damn... its interesting. And they do it well.

This EP is only a taste of what is to come though, so pick it up, give it a spin, see if you enjoy it... because if you do (and hell, probably even if you don’t) what you really need to do is pick up their next one...

VAMPARTY released through GNO's record label and Nothing But a Nightmare Records, this band is quickly becoming important. This new EP is stronger, faster, slower, wiser, crazier, and more developed than their last outing, and songs like 'Don’t Go Into The Woods Alone' are actually SURPRISING. I didn’t expect this fire and intensity from this band, but hot damn, this EP is head and shoulder above the last one. This isn’t to say that the last one wasn’t killer in its own way, its just that this one is hungrier, and it shows.

The clear singing, the bloody-throated screaming, the clean instrumentation, the grooves and the rolls... this is a well oiled horror machine. This band is only going to get bigger. Get in on the ground floor now! - Horror-Punks.com

Bio

For decades, Punk bands have been split up into sub-genres, and sub-sub-genres based off of everything from sound, to content, to hairstyle but those bands worthy of praise often find themselves making music between those lines and turning the expectation for whatever style fans see them as having on its head. Black Cat Attack (BCA) is one of those bands.

Marrying dark lyrical themes and the soft melodic vocals typically associated with Horror Punk acts with a rhythm section based on the hard, fast and driving bass and drums of the Hardcore movement has helped BCA carve out a place in Southern Ontario's music scene that is truly their own.

Since we've gone through such a huge change over the last few years we're kind of a different band now, said Valerie Knox, the band's guitarist, leader and only original member.

Originally seeing BCA as an outlet for her love of Rockabilly and traditional Horror Rock, time and line-up changes have morphed the band into something different and something more.

With Oshawa Punk rock standout Bryan Dickface bringing his thunderous bass skills and a stage presence that few can match to the line up, BCA took a step in a different direction. Now, with seasoned drummer, Ari Greenberg added to the band in 2011, and guitar veteran Dave Baksh added in 2013, BCA has solidified their brand of dark, eerie punk.

After releasing their first studio recording, a 7-track, 15-minute party starter titled Lonely Horror Stories, BCA started turning up in reviews and websites internationally. From America to Russia, horror themed music fans are taking notice and rightly so, BCA are one of those rare bands that that can rebuild styles and expectations.

BCA just wrapped up a summer of touring in Canada and the United States and are currently playing local gigs and writing a brand new record.
