Bio

Ken Campbell developed an Australian music profile through involvement in the early period of Melbourne band 'Deckchairs overboard' before leaving what was essentially becoming a pop outfit to again find a creative edge joining jazz punk art band 'Big Red Tractor'.
BRT enjoyed pioneering the use of blue tone jazz lines, unison guitar and trumpet melodies over piston driven rythym bass and drum grooves, (picture Miles Davis blowing with Echo and the bunnymen)
the band forged a solid local following over two years of consistent gigging ,and attracted major local management 'Dirty Pool' before disbanding on the verge in late 80's

After a lengthy period pursuing diverse alternate interests Ken re established a rapport and presence in the Sydney music scene in the mid nineties and early 2000's with the invention of 'Blackfish' - a collaboration with various Sydney based jazz and blues musicians, most notably including the late J Orszaczki.
The line up had a rolling crew of available folk for regular outings of largely improvised grooves played around Ken's narrative lyrical threads :-

Motor's running blind by the Kingsgate, firemen in blue are checking out the scene, here a pretty young thing now a temptress, eyes are pinned she's in a dream, with high heels up to the hilt while her knees are blue with nicotine and cold, for a little piece of mind work a miracle and shake the bones she's had to before.....

Unfortunately the live gigs never made it to tape and rare sessions in the studio never published

This current project 'Black Cherry Blues Express ' brings together a line up of players enjoying extensive musical credits in the local industry.

The band forges a sound that is evocative of the sixties underground, typified and spearheaded by the many Anglo /US/Australian bands of the day running with the hefty influence from the American blues pioneers, that still drive the primary thread in contemporary organic Rock, blues and Jazz today.

I hear your song
I hear you drawing blood
so head strong in the shadows of love
see you model some bohemian brochure,
dark eyed temptress out of 60's hollywood.....
