"'Final Straw ' (single review)"

"Kent based trio Black Circles are about to release “Final Straw”- a fresh sounding track that reminds me, in a good way, of The Glitterati. With jagged guitars and a thundering bass line, all pulled together by a sharp vocal, the band are on to a good thing with “Final Straw” and are certainly one to watch this summer."

4 out of 5 - Nikk Gunns, Get Ready to Rock

"'Final Straw ' (single review)"

Black Circles are a Kent based trio, who have only been together for about a year, however in that short time they've picked up loads of coverage across the UK and further afield such as Japan and the US.

Final Straw is their second single to date and is set to further enhance the band's reputation as one of the best up and coming rock bands around. The track opens with an intense serrated guitar riff and a vocal howl of intent, before the catchy rumbling bass and thunderous drums join the mix. The band lay down something of a tight and heavy groove that all leads up to a gigantic anthemic chorus that's full of primal passion and that has a hook more infectious than any known ailment.

If you love the idea of frantic fuzzy guitars colliding and clashing with bombastic beats whilst a vocalist snarls and spits out lyrics like his life depends on it, you'll love Black Circles, if you like Rueben, Them Crooked Vultures, a heavier Biffy Clyro or even the Foo Fighters you'll love Black Circles, if you love a band rocking out at full tilt you'll love Black Circles. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Final Straw is one of the best pure rock anthems I've heard in bloody ages and I love it.

"'Final Straw ' (single review)"

“Final Straw” is the follow up to debut single “Little Girl” by the Kent trio known as “Black Circles”. The new tune is set for release on May 16th.

This song will surely be playing on our radios soon! After listening to it for the first time, it was all I wanted to listen to. I tried to search more Black Circles music. I hit replay over and over. I made everyone in my house listen to it.

Very catchy lyrics, beats, and a very nice guitar solo. A beautiful young woman playing a mean bass doesn’t hurt either. All in all…. I would call this song a “stand up for yourself, I’m not taking this shit anymore, I’m done with you” song. - Denise Britt, Sonic Shocks

"'Final Straw' (single review)"

"The vocals are distinctive which gives the band a sound the listener can identify with.....I'd say this is a nice rockin' and punky song. Keep up the great work!"
- Leslie J. Bialik, Real Rocker Girl

"Sounding like punk crosses Queens Of The Stone Age, the track hits you from all angles and offers head banging, foot stomping riffs as Dan Josman’s guitar hammers out of the speakers.." - Rock Reviews 24/7

""Little Girl" (single review)"

"Black Circles are a three piece alternative rock band here to rock your world and "Little Girl" packs one hell of a punch. It's edgy, fast and catchy enough that after one listen you'll be singing it for the rest of the day. The vocal hooks, together with rocking guitar and good rhythms make it one of those tunes you just have to turn up loud and rock out to. Watch out for this band, because if this single is anything to go by we'll be hearing lot more from them." - Emily Peters, Black Velvet Magazine

"Live review - Underbelly, Hoxton Square, London, October 9th 2009"

A candle lit stairwell welcomes the curious gig goer to the Underbelly in London tonight. Nestled in the ubercool surroundings of the Hoxton Square, the basement venue aims to champion new and unsigned talent by way of short sets and swift turn arounds.
A cold platter of extraordinary uninspiring musicians are offered as the packed venue look at each other with utter confusion, and thus return the offer with a simple polite decline.
Saviours this evening come under the guise of the Black Circles. Having only recently formed this year, the Kent based 3 piece (consisting of friends Dan, Mayumi and Simon) immediately lift the crowd, emulsifying any lingering thoughts of despair left by previous acts.
Gigantic sounds engulf the room, energy is ripe and people seem to, well, get it. Myspace winner ’Hey You’ infuses bespoke grunge riffs alongside a dandy selection of traditional rock hooks, whilst forthcoming single 'Little Girl' simply tears to pieces any inhibitions present. Think The Subways, congealed with a little Queens Of The Stone Age, sneak in a tiny bit of Peaches and add a cheeky slice of 'Iggy Pop', and you’re probably half way there.

"'Little Girl' (single review)"

'Reminiscent of the Foo Fighters but far from being derivative, Little Girl is one of those tracks you can get excited about when you hear it. Great vocal hooks and punchy rhythms, in short, a good rock song which you can drive fast to!'
- Jordan Thomas, Recharged Radio

"'Little Girl' (single review)"

These two minutes and fifty-fifty seconds are like when an amazing looking woman in a business suit rushes past you at 8am in a busy railway station. Uptight, in a hurry and totally compelling. “Little Girl” can’t be described as anything other than a rocker, but it’s a rocker in very pointy shoes that couldn’t give a monkey’s what you think of it.
London trio Dan, Mayumi and Simon show that smooth doesn’t mean soft. They take all the scuzz and hormonal urgency of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and triple filter it through Robert Palmer and Roxy Music with pulsing effect. It’s a sharp, taut shot of adrenaline that makes for an irresistible – and slightly saucy – calling card. Black Circles have arrived. Join them for drinks in their neon bedroom. - Overplay.com

"'Little Girl' (single review)"

‘….the songs’ every note is placed perfectly to work its way into your head - just like a pop song but much, much better! With catchy guitar riffs and cool bass lines, ‘Little Girl’ is three and a half minutes of infectious sound. Yet to be signed…..but soon to be massive, the three-piece grunge rockers can hold their heads up high knowing they have a great single.’ - MusioMusicTV

'They have an impressive, fat sound and catchy vocal melodies. They will be a buzz band in Japan very soon, catch them before they get big!"

"'Little Girl' (single review)"

'Little Girl' is the debut single from London based three piece Black Circles, and it's a very impressive first release. It's anthemic punch-the-air rock vaguely reminiscent of the Foo Fighters and their stadium rocking ilk with a delightfully grung-ey fuzzy guitar sound and some infectious sing along vocal hooks.

Now to be brutally honest this isn't really our usual 'thing' here at Cack Blabbath, but there is something in this that we can't help but like. It's well written, well produced and catchy as hell.

Black Circles are an ambitious band, and if this release is anything to go by they have the musical ability, talent and songwriting savvy to go far. Heavy enough to separate itself from the usual run of the mill pop-punk stuff, but accessible enough to the masses to be hugely popular.

Obviously one single does not a successful career make, but on the strength of what is on offer here and their MySpace this is definitely a band worth checking out, and we eagerly await their next releases.

"'Little Girl' (single review)"

I say, this is a fizzling little rock n roll beast of a number. Scuzzy guitars and big anthemic choruses all perfectly punctuated by net cowbell percussion parts. Their Myspace friends (don’t just Google Black Circles – you’ll end up with a load of adverts for car tires) give you a good idea of the sound of this also – Mark Laneghan/Screaming Trees, QOTSA, Foos, You Me At Six etc. 7/10 - SB, Tasty Fanzine

"'Little Girl' (single review)"

‘Little Girl’ is the debut single from Kent based three-piece Black Circles. The release has the potential of mass mainstream appeal yet still holds all their originality and credibility.

The song itself is quick with fast-paced vocals matching the speedy yet smooth guitar riffs and soon escalating into a chorus which encapsulates all the catchiness of modern-day indie yet still keeps a cool rock edge to it. The vibes this song gives off seem impossible to ignore and after just one listen you are likely to walk away with the track firmly stuck in your head (especially it’s contagious chorus).

As the slightly-under-3-minutes track comes to an end, a repetitive chant begins and the energy in the vocals force you to sing a long. This song is short but most definitely sweet and has the potential for catapulting this band onto the radios of many. Whether or not Black Circle’s other tracks will live up to this expectation, nobody yet knows but if this debut is anything to go by they could be the next big thing.
8/10 - Amy McLellan, Get To The Front

Bio

BLACK CIRCLES are a rock band from the Kent, UK. The video for their last single ‘Escape’ got 10,000 hits on YouTube, and helped them to gain nearly 12,000 Twitter followers and 4,000 Facebook fans worldwide.

Previous release ‘Final Straw’ (iTunes 2011, Classic Rock Magazine’s ‘Track of the Day’) received glowing reviews on line, airplay on Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 Introducing Show and Total Rock Radio.

Black Circles combine the valve fuzz of Queens of The Stone Age with the blistering pop melodies of early Foo Fighters. Yet it is the creative synergy between guitarist/singer Dan’s impassioned vocals and Mayumi’s hypnotic bass lines that make their sound so unique.

The band have been featured in national press (Rhythm, Black Velvet, Somojo, Japan Weekly, Bass Guitar) as well as top online music blogs.

A live favourite on the UK gig scene, Black Circles have played RocSoc university tours, countless festivals up and down the country most notably Farm Festival, Indie Week, Big Bike Festival and The Great Escape. In October 2012 they were finalists in the 'Play&Stay' competition judged by US-indie rockers We Are Scientists.

With a brand new single 'Playing Games' and animated video released on 22nd April, there is no doubt Black Circles have their sights set on big things in 2013.
