BlackCopWhiteCop formed in the basement on Ludlow Street in New York’s Lower East Side in 2007. Drummer Eric Lee (Jets Jaguar) and bassist Steve O’Brien (Crown of Thornz, Grey Area) set out to start a band a based on a heavy rhythm section by taking inspiration from the great reggae, soul and post-punk bands of the 70s. Adding the screaming and sophisticated playing of Nick Demas on vocals and guitar shaped the music with a sonic dissonance in the vein of the Modern Lovers and the Replacements. Shawn Gardner (Crime in Stereo, Your Arsenal) completed the line-up as a second guitarist in 2008 and infused an energetic style of play that harkens back to the days of CBGB Sunday Matinees.
The four members that make up BlackCopWhiteCop are about playing a style of music that will hit you hard live and stay in your head with a melodic bass line to make sure you don’t forget.
