I was recently given the opportunity to interview Schift. Schift is a local Baltimore band on the rise. They formed in the summer of 2006 and soon there after released a demo album. Recently they released a video for their hit "My Everything" and will soon be releasing their follow up to the demo album. Schift's members, Dave Emanuel (vocals), Wes Rosenberger (guitar), TJ Darpino (guitar), Kenny Regiec (drums), and Daryn Shifflett (drums) are highly enthusiastic about there future and with good reason!

(STACY ARRINGTON)Are you all from Baltimore and if not, where do you hail from?

(DE)Yes we are all born and raised “Baltimorons!” Dave, TJ, and Wes are from Dundalk and Kenny and Daryn are from Pasadena/Glen Burnie.

(STACY ARRINGTON)Who were your biggest influences growing up? When I ask this I mean in general, life... (ex. this could be musicians or your father).

(WES)Rough times in life are the best for the music inspiration…… as far as music, AC/DC, Soundgarden, hinedown, Hinder, 12 Stones, Def Leppard, Daughtry, and Nickleback to name a few.

(TJ)I am a music lover so all kinds of music inspires me, also my family raising me to always push for the most and be the best at what I do. They are really my inspiration.

(DE)I think are biggest influences in life is music itself! When you surround yourself with it, it becomes your life and therefore you don’t know anything else!

(STACY ARRINGTON)When will the new album be out?

(DE)The new self entitled 5 song LP will be out in late December of 07.

(TJ)Also we like to leave a little mystery for the live shows.

(STACY ARRINGTON)How is the sound different?

(WES)I think what separates the new sound and direction we have taken from the old is we are maturing and with that trying to think outside the box, rather then being close minded, try different things even if its not the first thing that came to mind, for me I think the best the best songs are written when you don’t expect, rather then saying ok lets write a hit song, most of the time it doesn’t work like that its all in the mood and when your comfortable to write. I think the old cd was a bit experimental sounding which is not a bad thing but, not the direction I think we all intended to head in. With the new cd we look at the 3 songs on the new LP as a base/root and something for us to build off of, that style, and sound of music.

(TJ)I like to think we dont sound like anyone else in the biz. We would like to bring back that old fashioned smack in the mouth rock, but keep it commercial.

(DE)We don’t stress very much on sounding different. We just stick true to the music and most important to ourselves and we do what were good at “Rocking out!” Rock is rock, and good music is good music!

(STACY ARRINGTON)Where was it recorded and was there anything different about this recording process than when you put out the demo (or first album)?

(WES)The first demo was recorded with Drew Mazurek of “High View Studios” as well as the 3 new songs on the LP. I think that we prepared a bit more for the studio this time I wasn’t in the band when the first demo was recorded so...im not to sure but from my point of view I think we took a lot more time to produce the songs and make sure everything was perfect, from which guitar cab we used to the mics that we used vocal patterns extra guitar riffs, whether a certain part was to long or to short, and some extra stuff to beef up the songs. I definitely would like to give a lot of credit to Drew Mazurek, he is an awesome guy to work with great engineer/producer and someone that has been working with us since a very young age, I think the comfort ability level makes the recording process that much smoother.

(STACY ARRINGTON)Will there be any video's released?

(WES)We actually just released our first music video which was actually shot here in Baltimore a couple of months back for the song “My Everything” which was shot by “Jim Fudous” who did a great job aside from it being a bit rushed & under budgeted but something cool for the fans to grab hold of. We also just released one of our songs over to “ADRENALINE CREW” –www.adrenalinecrew.com for them to use in there new video which is out in stores now, so everyone should rush out and get it ha-ha. I think we may be shooting another video coming up soon not sure for which song yet but we will definitely post something about it when we know more, it should be great though take our time on it and get everything done the right way.

(DE)Expect a video for “The Man”, coming out it late Spring 08. Production is still being planned.

(STACY ARRINGTON)How has the band changed in the last couple of years?

(TJ)Well we havent been together that long but we have all been playing for such a long time. My first gig was at age 13.

(STACY ARRINGTON)Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

(WES)Signed to a major label touring the world r - Stacy Arrington

Black Day seven is no stranger to hard work. With in a year span Black Day Seven has put together a kick ass lineup, unforgetable tunes that have caught the attention of many, been on a national tour with SMG recording artist Fosterchild, and blown away so many fans with loud energetic rock n roll."In such a short period we have done so much"."We are obsessed with writing songs that you can sing along with the first time you hear it.If you can't, then we didnt do our job".

Black Day Seven captures a unique style of music for there listeners. With rock driving songs like never gonna die,The man,and the truth (all can be found on the first self title lp release) are all songs audiences relate to and will catch the attention of a&r representatives across the country.

Black Day Seven always seem to be the underdogs of this buisness but they wouldnt have it any other way."We love people seeing us thinking we are some young local band that dont know how to play and surprising the hell out of them. Our first tour was very good for us to get under our belts. We love traveling in cramped vehicles and staying in shady areas for rest.In the end we are doing what we love.We hope to capture more audiences next time around and hopefully reach europe very soon with or without the help of a label".

Black Day Seven is truly born to rock.
and "We look forward to the road ahead".
