Bio

Who is "Black Dog Denim"?

Lead singer Dan Vass was born and raised in Saskatchewan and has loved music and performing ever since he was tall enough to stand in front of the bathroom mirror and sing along to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" using his mother's hairbrush as a microphone.

Dan has a wide-ranging taste in music and his songwriting reflects influences from a variety of both classic artists, including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and the contemporary, such as U2 and John Mayer.

Guitarist and back-up vocalist Noel Johnson was born and raised in Alberta. As a child, Noel never felt particularly inspired by music, a trait he attributes to his parents' love of those magical top 40 hits of the late 1980s and over exposure to Rod Stewart in particular.

Enter the grunge era of the 1990s, which sparked this uninspired, soon-to-be songwriter's interest in discovering new music. Noel enjoys and draws many of his musical influences from artists such as grunge's trailblazers, Nirvana and Bush, and from today's Death Cab for Cutie and The Arcade Fire.

With Noel's love for an alternative and creative sound, and Dan's passion for timeless and original music, this acoustic duet sets a new standard for beautiful songwriting, catchy harmonies and captivating performances.

Black Dog Denim was born in the fine city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan over a case of fine lager and dreams of performing on the world stage. Noel and Dan made their way to Calgary, Alberta and decided to put some of their music to wax, enlisting the services of Music Centre Canada and Brad Taylor as engineer to record their demo. They've now dived into the process of recording their debut album entitled " Death of The RockStar", which is due to be released in the Fall of 2008.

In April 2008 Black Dog Denim will release an acoustic EP entitled " Your Way Home".
