Moving like something between a freight train and a thundering herd is Austin Texas' Black Earth. Black Earth offers a hefty sound accented by blues, psychedelic, and stoner rock. They could be warped back to the late Sixties and early Seventies, with some paisley shirts, of course, and fit right in. There's a good reason to check out this underground band.

Biography

Black Earth has had a long history in the underground rock n’ roll scene. Starting out as Ving Ra and the Ultrasonic in the fall of 1997, they were San Diego regulars until Ving and founding drummer Shawn Alvear decided to move their act out to Austin Texas, the “Live Music Capital” of the world. Performing as a five piece and enduring several difficult lineup changes, it was decided that the band needed to be reshuffled. With Dave Rangel recruited into the ranks, the band was reborn as a three piece named Black Earth. As such, Black Earth has been a hard hitting rock n’ roll staple in Austin ever since.

Incorporating elements of the “desert sound”, biting guitar riffs and a bottom heavy sound, Black Earth’s music has won fans over many times both at home and in Europe. In fact, Ving Ra (Jason Calise) was both an important and founding member of the Palm Springs desert scene and the adrenaline fueled “generator parties” that spawned bands such as Kyuss, Yawning Man, Across The River, Fatso Jetsun and Unsound. With the departure of Shawn Alvear on drums Black Earth have since teamed up with heavy hitter Jason Reece from …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead to finish their 2009 release "That's Right We're Goin Ballz Deep" released by Big Ape Records and 2012 release "Pink Champagne" released digitially through Electric Factory Records.

With successful tours of Europe and the United States and having shared the stage in the past with bands such as Throw Rag, Burning Brides, Early Man, Atomic Bitchwax, Gogol Bordello, Jimmy Chamberlain Complex, Peter Pan Speedrock, Young Heart Attack, Supersuckers, The Meatmen, and legendary rockers Blue Cheer; Black Earth released their Big Ape Records debut “That’s Right, We’re Goin’ Ballz Deep”. Recorded in the heart of Austin, “That’s Right, We’re Goin’Ballz Deep” composes eight furious rock tunes guaranteed to leave the listener gasping for breath.

In late 2009, Black Earth went back into the studio to follow up on 2008's That's Right We're Going Ballz Deep! Recorded by Chris "Frenchie" Smith (who just finished Jet's new record)at The Bubble in Austin TX, "Pink Champagne" brings ten brand new tunes with drummer Jason Reece. With a fresh sound and powerful drive this record is the best to date. This album has been long anticipated and doesn't disappoint.

Black Earth returned to Europe with a successful tour in late summer of 2010 playing Kempenerpop(NL), Incubate(NL) and The Reeberbahn Festivals(Germany), playing to crowds in excess of 3000 people.

Black Earth was featured in the Feb edition of Visions in Germany, and was featured in Classic Rock Magazine's October Issue # 150 with a song added to the compilation called, "The First Cut is the Deepest" .

In July of 2011, Black Earth was endorsed by DrNo - Effects Guitar Pedals http://www.drno-effects.com based out of The Netherlands. This is their second endorsement, the first being Psycho Sounds custom instrument cables.

In December 2011, Black Earth was chosen as one of six finalists to open for Clutch in Austin TX by 101x.com alternative radio.

Black Earth has signed on with The Rainmaker Media Group and Half Note Music Publishing in order to promote Pink Champagne.

In summer of 2012, Black Earth headed back to the studio to work on new material to be released in 2013. Keep a look out because Black Earth has it's sights on the soul of rock n roll!

Lyrics

She Don't Want It

Written By: Black Earth

Lyrics by Jason Calise, music by Black Earth(Jason Calise, David Rangel, Jason Reece)

It stared in her eye, It said, “I’d rather die!”
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more
The knife cut way too deep, a blood flow and death creep
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more
The cops came and she wanted a smoke, “Please sir, just one toke”
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more

Tied down and in a fright, cold and naked through the night
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more
The nurse hit her in her chest, she got mad a flooded the rest
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more
All night she went bananas, lost to us like Atlantis
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more

….she don’t need it no more…Hey Ving, I don’t think she wants it…

(Solo)

Both scared through the world, lashing out like a girl
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more
Her mom left her all alone, no one came and took her home
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more
When I saw her, she gave a smile, like a happy little child
She don’t want it, She don’t need it…no more

Pink Champagne

Written By: Black Earth

Lyrics by Jason Calise, music by Black Earth(Jason Calise, David Rangel, Jason Reece)

Your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
Your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
I don’t mind(repeat), I don’t mind…

Too many times I’ve tried, you never left my side
But baby that’s alright with me
Smoking room is ablaze, life changed in your gaze
But baby that’s alright with me
You whispered that you cared, lots of love when you stared
And baby that’s alright with me

Cause your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
Your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
I don’t mind, I don’t mind…

You’re scared and confused I’m here, don’t refuse
But baby that’s alright with me
Like a fiend you get me hind, falling tall are you a lie
Cause baby that’s alright with me
Don’t leave stay right here, you’re my girl won’t you get a beer
Cause baby that’s alright with me

Cause your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
Your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
Your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
Your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
Your love is just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
Your love feels just like pink champagne, I don’t mind, I don’t mind, I don’t mind,
Your love feels just like pink champagne and I don’t mind when we get drunk sometimes
