Bio
What started as a brainchild of booze sessions is now noticeable as the next successful rock act in Bicol.
Black Gulaman, originally composed of Bordz (vocals), Khatz (guitars), Owen (guitars), Pao (bass) and Pungay (drums), is a cross of different musical genres. The band’s major influences are of the rock and alternative breed as well as hardcore acts.
Before its maiden performance during the ORSEM Nyt ’05 on June 2, 2005 at the Ateneo de Naga University, most of the Black Gulaman members were all playing for their own bands also at the Ateneo.
After a myriad of names like Fetus Factory (Something Pao’s parents didn’t approve of so the idea was scrapped. Better change the name than lose a bassist, right?) and even Bordz Short and Black Bordz ( The vocalist now, ladies and gentlemen.)
They are now Black Gulaman (generic if you please) because, according to these boys, the band is loud as it can get, but still sweet and best served cold.
The inspiration of their songs are the different issues of the society, their personal experiences and the best selling issues there are such as love cum hate.
Gigs both in and outside Naga City are usually in the company of “sibling bands” (Centerfold and 12 Ton Sushi). The band has gained reputation for being able to rev up the crowd with some good slammin’ by their sheer rock music and attitude. “Rock-ness monster” now an apt moniker.
Black Gulaman was one of the Muziklaban Rock Challenge 05 Semi-Finalists who represented Bikol in Lucena last August 20, 2005. Moreover, they emerged supreme as South Luzon’s representative for Muziklaban Rock Challenge 05 National Championship on September 10, 2005.
