Black Hour

Black Hour is a melodic heavy band from Toronto, Canada who’s music combines the ultra heavy sounds of Fear Factory and Pantera with the straight ahead party rock of Van Halen and Andrew W.K., and the melodies and drama of Iron Maiden and Queen.
Playing Toronto clubs in 1999 and recording the Demo99 EP, the band attracted attention from home town metal fans and critics alike, being touted as "Toronto’s greatest metal band" by the Toronto Star. This auspicious beginning was the launching pad for further energetic clubs shows and the release of their 01 EP in May of 2001. Fan reaction to their stage performance and songs was extreme to say the least. At a pre-release show, the band gave away only 5 self-burned copies of 01 to the audience as door prizes. By the end of the set, audience members were offering the door prize winners up to $50 for the 3 song disk and clamoring the merch desks for anything Black Hour related.

Their devastating stage performances in a string of club gigs (including opening slots for Canadian classic rockers Goddo among others), a performance in the Canadian Music Week festival, airplay from stations across Canada and the U.S., including CBC Radio, CRFC 109.1, KRFM 96.5 Arizona, and press from Umbrella Music, WDOA Magazine, Spill Magazine, and The Pit metal zine helped sell out the entire run of their first full length album, Black Hour.

Vocalist Paul Feather (ex BIGFATZERO and Retina Burn), bassists Trevor Balla and Alberto Campuzano and drummer Brad McNeice joined founding guitarist Andrew Roudny and recently added guitarist Jeff Stephenson for Black Hour’s fourth release and third EP, the sonically stunning Rebellion.

The new musical direction of Black Hour brings piano, organ and horns into their crushing base of heavy guitars and stunning drums. Using an attack of dual lead guitars as well as dual bass guitars, Black Hour have pushed the rock envelope with fun and fury, as well as making an immediate impact on metal fans across Canada. Soon after its release in March 2003, Rebellion shot to #1 on the CFBX FM chart, topping major label albums like Mudvayne (Epic), Six Feet Under (Metal Blade) and The Jackass soundtrack.
The lead single, "Dead Stop Silence" achieved regular rotation status on 105 FM The Fox in Fredericton, New Brunswick and earned the band a berth in the 97.7 HTZFM Rocksearch competition.

Black Hour’s aggressive advertising and promotional campaign is bringing their music to an ever wider audience, as BH was the first independent band in Toronto to launch a commercial rock radio ad to promote a new release. That combined with their over-the-top stage show and massive original sound is cementing their reputation as one of Canada’s best unsigned bands. While other new metal acts are content to simply parody the genre by being 80’s sound-alikes, Black Hour is taking metal to the next plateau and creating a new and vibrant sound.
