"BLR "Tranquilizer" e.p. Review"

Don't let this bands eps name deceive you! This band is knocking out anything but a soporificoffering in "Tranquilizer" their debut e.p. Kick ass drumming by Lonny Simpkins and shredding guitar riffs along with solid bass lines will grab the attention of true rock and roll fans and keep a firm grip. However, they take rock to a newer level with articulate lyrics and melodic musical writings to capture a wider audience. This is best shown in "Screaming for Life" where you are lured into believing it is a rock ballad and then it slyly evolves into full on power vocals and instrumentation that best shows the versatility of Blacklight Revelation and the vocals of Marcus. "Pyramids" show that amazing talent runs deep in this band by showcasing another of guitarist/vocalist Marcus Aurelius plucking an awesome instrumental tune with subtle inflections of the other band members to accompany and enhance this composition. "Black and White" best sums it up for this band in that they have rock and roll running in their veins and pouring out in the recording and performance of their songs. "Tranquilizer" satisfies that craving for rock with a new edge and is an ep worth listening to on repeat many times.

Bio

Blacklight Revelation was formed by the perennial union between vocalist and guitarist Marcus Aurelius (formerly of Mercy for Mary) and brother and local So-Cal drum legend Lonny Simpkins (Distilled Spirits, T.A.S.C., etc). The pair assembled a creative musical arsenal that focused on textured vocal harmonies, melodic guitar riffs backed by unique chord structures, powerful and intricate drumming, and an intelligent-design approach to songwriting. Choosing to work as a two piece with the occasional help of talented and seasoned bassists, they began playing shows in and around Southern California to an eager and enthusiastic crowd where hype followed and a buzz ensued. Deciding further to release their music independently and work outside the traditional dogmas within the industry by releasing their music on their own label "Nuclear Sonata Records" only heightened their reputation and furthered the demand for BLR. The band has been praised as being solid, reputable, unique and well sought after while maintaining their artistic integrity. Constant shows, increasing radio airplay, rave reviews and a growing fan base is their reward and puts them at the forefront of today’s rock scene…
