"Black Light White Light - Directors Cut EP"

The Scandinavian countries are kicking the arse of every other area of the World when you take into account the amount of great music produced in relation to the population of that area….it seems to be an endless flow of brilliant artists all bringing out richly rewarding stuff…and often without huge budgets behind them either.

The latest one to to take to your heart are Black Light White Light who have recently released the brilliant Directors Cut EP on 7” single.

Initially the EP seems to be taking heavy influence from early Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, with the devastating riffs and tension of Higher Than Low, it’s a storming opening and draws you straight into the EP, a track i’d definitely love to hear live.

Like You follows with a much quieter opening, this time it’s the vocals that really come to the fore in a much moodier track, again though it glows with a real quality. The final track (Little Hazards) once again shows a clever creative diversity, this time it opens like a soundtrack score to a western gunfight, with a slow twang ramping things up in your imagination before settling into it’s rhythm.

I really can’t wait to hear more from Black Light White Light and fingers crossed we’ll have a UK tour before long to catch them live. If you don’t want to take my word for it then check out the video they’ve just produced here. - The Beat Surrender

"Approved debut from Danish Black Light White Light"

Black Light White Light's debut-ep shows a potential that places them i the best half of the Danish rock underground.

Review in Danish:
The Soundtrack of Our Lives.

- Diskant.dk

"Song Premiere: Scandinavian Psychedelia from Black Light White Light - "Running""

By Chris Steffen

Denmark-based trio Black Light White Light has been exploring the reaches of psychedelia for five years, and soldier on with their upcoming full-length, Gold Into Dreams. We have the premiere of the band's ten-minute-plus brain-warp, "Running," which shifts from jaunty acoustic guitars to swirling shoegaze-y guitars that seem to impossibly keep adding layer upon layer, before collapsing into a gentle coda of feedback and echo. For Gold Into Dreams, the band teamed up with producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith, who has worked with bands like ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, the Dandy Warhols and the Meat Puppets.

Gold Into Dreams will be released in the United States on October 14. For more on Black Light White Light, visit their Facebook page. - AllMusic

"Record sleeves of the month"

Our latest round-up of beautiful, unusual and intriguing album art includes some apocalyptic designs for The Bug, surreal artwork for Sbtrkt and some lovely imagery for Perfume Genius and Jamie T.

First up though, is Malmö studio Matthew + Emelie’s limited edition packaging for Danish band Black Light White Light’s new album, Gold Into Dreams. "We were asked to design a special limited edition of the new album ... so we came up with the concept of producing a custom guitar pedal with the album contained on a flash drive,” explain Matthew Bolger and Emelie Lidström. “You connect the pedal to your computer to download the album and artwork via the mini jack output at the back of the pedal."

The pedal was created with the help of Dave Adkins at Looperstar Effects, who designed the inner workings and built each pedal by hand. The package also includes a switch which produces oscillations, electronic bleeps and synth tones, as the film below demonstrates: http://vimeo.com/107683885 - Creative Review

"Guitar Pedal Design Features Band’s New Album"

By Emma Hutchings on September 25, 2014

The Black Light White Light ‘Gold Digger’ fuzz pedal contains the Danish trio’s sophomore effort.

The Sweden-based design company M&E; (Irish/Swedish creative partnership Matthew Bolger and Emelie Lidström) have designed a special limited-edition guitar pedal. The “Gold Digger” fuzz pedal features Danish band Black Light White Light’s second album, Gold Into Dreams, within it for downloading or streaming.

Black Light White Light hail from Copenhagen and offer a blend of pure 60′s bohemian psych-rock with a sultry Scandinavian twist. Believed to be the first of its kind, this pedal/album was designed in collaboration with pedal maker Dave Adkins/LooperStar.

The handcrafted pedal is a unique way of selling music to fans, offering them a tangible experience for a highly digitized method. It measures 13 x 10 x 6 cm and was made using quality components. With an attractive red and gold design, the pedal features numerous knobs and switches on the front for adding gain, changing texture, adjusting bass and treble, controlling the overall output volume and engaging different effects.

Here’s an explanation:

The idea was to create a fuzz pedal that could capture the spirit of 60′s bands, but also get into experimental electronic craz[i]ness at a flick of a switch. The basic fuzz is sculpted using the Gain and Tone controls with the Shape knob adding a more retro gated quality to sound. Engaging the Dig switch brings the Gold knob into play allowing you to go digging for sounds of oscillation, electronic bleeps and lower octave synth tones.

The pedal includes a 9v standard power jack and 3.5mmm headphone-style USB socket and cable to download Black Light White Light’s new album Gold Into Dreams onto a PC or Mac. The “Gold Digger” fuzz pedal is available to purchase from Black Light White Light’s online shop for 140 euros. - PSFK

"Black Light White Light - 'High Like A Hurricane' - Single Review"

Returning with their trademark gravelly vocals, Black Light White Light have a certain shine about them which pierces through the murky veil of rock, capturing the attention of those listening within seconds.

'High Like A Hurricane's instrumental is unpolished and the melodies have sharp edges to them which all add a little realism to the tune. This brings it close to being 'just like the rest of them' but by managing to maintain a unique anthemic progressions shows they're more than 'just another rock band'.

Catchy and emotive, the group become likeable - hard within this genre - and it's clear how much they've been working on their material if you check out their first releases following their formation back in 2009.

B-side 'Sex and Fury' is just as impressive, running straight on from the end of this single and seeping charm, confidence and swagger.

It's an exciting single, out now and highly recommended.

"Review: BLACK LIGHT WHITE LIGHT - GOLD INTO DREAMS"

A BALANCED UNIVERSE

The ambitious rock band Black Light White Light was formed in 2009 by Martin Ehlertsen (guitar and vocals), which would create a psych-rock band with an international outlook, and the search for interesting collaborations across great distances. After a few exchanges, he found the brothers Adam (drums) and Tobias Winberg (bass), the rhythm section was needed.

The band released in 2010, the report praised ep Directors Cut and later that year the debut album Infrared Daylight. On the album, the band producer Rick Parker (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Dandy Warholes others) with, and his work paid off for the band, which later that year was opened the doors to the United States. The band has since played several concerts in the United States and in much of Central Europe. The band went in May the studio with producer Chris Smith (The Dandy Warholes, JET, Smog and others) to record album number two. For the first time the band has tried to record on home ground in Copenhagen. The album has been a quick trip to the Grammy-winning female master technician Emily Lazar (Foo Fighters, Lou Reed, The Raveonettes, David Bowie) in the United States.

Black Light White Light plays dreamy psych-rock with lots of melody. It is a balanced universe, with an emphasis on building numbers. Most numbers arise out of nowhere, but as it progresses, it folds out a spectacular sound. The means is actually very simple. For the most part it in the usual fashion rhythm section that keeps the number. The drums play a beat, as we know from older American rock. Bassist Tobias Winbergs game may have borrowed a bit here and there with Robert legs from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, where the bass slip away with midtones and trimmings. But it's all just for the band. Guitar game is actually very simple, but works perfectly, and several venue also offers a powerful riffs.

On the slightly faster numbers and some of the quiet reminds me of the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on their latest album Spector At The Feast. What Black Light White Light do - is to mix it all with 90s British rock music from Manchester. For example, brings the vocals great inspiration from Ian Brown of The Stone Roses. There is also a hint of Oasis of example, a number like "Revolutionary Sound Squad". Although it may seem a bit messy with this mix between English 90s rock and classic rock n 'roll from the United States, so Black Light White Light succeeds.

Among the album's highlights, I would highlight tracks like "Sex and Fury", "Aim A Little High", "Operations" and "Running." "Operations" is really strong after hearing the album. It seems at once new and yet as anything I know. The number seems a little sluggish in the verse, but it takes hold. "Running" is the number that best describes Black Light White Light. The number has a good structure before it unfolds into a guitar riff and fiery drums. For this ligges a British-inspired vocals. The number could easily be taken from the 90s scene in England where both Blur and The Stone Roses could have made it through to today, where bands like Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs could have done something like that.

Despite the fact that the list of other bands have become quite long in this review, so do not misunderstand me. It is not because you are left with the feeling that you have just heard a plate with one of the bands I've mentioned. For Black Light White Light has some touch that makes it not work as cheap copy. I think the album is great. This is an ambitious Danish rock band that is not afraid to go out into the world and test themselves. It is one of the albums I've heard many times as a reviewer, and it gets better every time. It has made me want to listen to music, and I'm reminded of that rock music is more than who can play the wildest and loudest. - Lydtapet

"Black Light White Light, ‘Running’ – Exclusive Premiere"

By Chuck Armstrong October 8, 2014 12:31 PM

If there is such a genre as psychedelic-pop-infused shoegaze-rock, Black Light White Light would be at its helm. The Danish trio are getting ready to release their latest album, ‘Gold Into Dreams,’ in the U.S. on Oct. 14 — but before it hits store shelves, we’re beyond excited to debut the brand-new music video for the studio track ‘Running.’

The song perfectly seizes what Black Light White Light are all about, and its accompanying video is just as mesmerizing. “‘Running’ is much more about wanting to escape the loneliness and the emotional emptiness you absorb from your surrounding,” frontman Martin Ejlersten says, “but not knowing how to escape without turning it all back and just running away in a hurry in whatever direction you can.”

The singer and guitarist goes on, “It’s about taking a stand even if it’s hard and goes against the current of the mainstream. In the video, we were working on capturing how an individual is feeling isolated through being in the midst of crowds of people in one of the most vibrant cities in the world on a busy Saturday night.”

In an experience most can relate to, Ejlersten explains, “Everyone is rapidly drifting by in the opposite direction toward the superficial absurdity of modern life.”

"Black Light White Light - Running"

Danish three-piece Black Light White Light unveil the London based video for 'Running'; the new song from their new album 'Gold Into Dreams', out in the US on October 14th 2014 through Danish label Target Records and Danish label Record Records.

The video sees the band's frontman board a tube train at Seven Sisters Station in London to find himself amidst the famous backdrop of Piccadilly Circus. In the darkened street, he appears to be walking forwards while everyone else is walking backwards and then remains stationary as people's busy lives take place in speeded up fashion around him. The blurred visual effects of the video and flashes of black and white give the tune a retro feel, which works well with the fuzzy guitars, crackling bass and psychedelic vibe.

The band was formed in 2009 by guitarist and singer Martin Ejlertsen, who then roped in drummer Adam Winberg and bassist Tobias Winberg. 'Gold Into Dreams' was produced by Chris "Frenchie" Smith in Copenhagen. 'His enthusiasm towards the whole recording process in the studio and the creation of songs had a great influence on the band', Ejlertsen recently admitted. As for new song 'Running', he explained that the song 'opened the door to new visions' for him. 'It has so much spirit and attitude in it', he said. - Contact Music

"Black Light White Light Premiere "High Like a Hurricane" Music Video and Gold Digger Fuzz Pedal — Exclusive"

Today, GuitarWorld.com presents the exclusive premiere of "High Like a Hurricane" the new "in the studio" music video by Black Light White Light.

The song is from the Danish trio's latest album, Gold Into Dreams, which was released in the U.S. October 14. It will be available physically in the U.S. January 13.

At the core of Black Light White Light is singer/guitarist Martin Ejlersten, and the band is rounded out by brothers Adam and Tobias Winberg on drums and bass respectively.

“When we recorded Gold Into Dreams, we planned a photo session to start one of the days," Ejlersten said. "We wanted to invite interested people of any kind with us in the studio by capturing the band in the recording process, taking some great shots from a pro photographer.

"We then decided to shoot a video as well. It wasn’t really planned and that’s why the video has a kind of raw freshness to it. It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining. You can sense how spring light is thrown through the windows in the roof down in the magnificent live room of the studio. Since it was morning and the light was really bright, it seemed natural to play with sunglasses if anyone should wonder.

"‘High Like a Hurricane’ was such a strong track already at this early stage of recording, so it seemed natural to shoot the video for this song to become our first single for the new album.”

In conjunction with its physical and digital release, the band has released the album as a “Gold Digger” fuzz guitar pedal. Designed by M&E with Ejlersten and pedal maker Dave Adkins from LooperStar, this one-of-a-kind pedal includes a USB socket and cable to download Gold Into Dreams.

"An Album Download…. Inside a Fuzz Pedal?"

Posted by Trey Xavier on November 7, 2014 at 10:00 am

Black Light White Light Gold Digger Pedal With Album Download Inside

Here’s a first: Danish shoegaze/indie rock band Black Light White Light (say that shit ten times fast) has put their album download into a fuzz pedal. That’s right: not included with the pedal on a CD or thumb drive, or a download code, you can plug a USB cable into the pedal itself and download their album Gold Into Dreams onto your computer. And the best part? You could win it in this contest they’re having.

The Gold Digger fuzz pedal, designed in collaboration with pedal maker LooperStar and art by M&E is one of the most chaotic and distorted sounds I’ve ever heard. It has something called the Gold knob that creates some really out of this world synth-y electronic terror noises. I really think that metal bands could use this kind of out of control blasted fuzz tones sometimes over the nice crunchy guitars we’re so used to. It’s really a very disturbing sound, check out the demo.

Hardly business as usual. Certainly not something I would use every day or even for a whole song, but if it’s chaos you be wantin’, thar be yer vessel.

Follow the instructions on this page to be entered to win the pedal, or go here to buy one. You can order the album direct from them here. - Gear Gods

"Black Light White Light: ‘Gold Into Dreams’"

Three years after their debut in 2011 with Infrared Daylight, Black Light White Light release Gold Into Dreams, a continuation of their vintage, psychedelic rock style. The Danish trio consists of singer/guitarist, Martin Ejlersten and brothers, Adam and Tobias Winberg. Think Jet but more intimidating, and much more badass.

With Ejlersten’s rough and raw vocals, along with the band’s echo effects and layers, Gold Into Dreams oozes sensuality and high energy. In addition to the album’s digital release, Black Light White Light has also produced a “Gold Digger” fuzz guitar pedal with USB socket and cable to download the album…figure that one out. The pedal seems to embody BLWL’s style perfectly: simple gold on red with a 70’s design and typography. On top of that, Grammy-nominated producer Chis “Frenchie” Smith (Meat Puppets) largely contributed to Gold Into Dream’s production. How much cooler can you get?

The album opens with “High Like A Hurricane,” debuting BLWL’s signature style with ethereal vocals and a subtle western guitar style that becomes more prevalent in “Sex And Fury.” To match the vibrancy of “High Like A Hurricane,” the music video exemplifies Gold Into Dream’s artistic nature. Black and white imagery of the band layered with transparent images give the video that hallucinogenic effect that comes with their psychedelic style. Light and dark imagery contrast, appropriately, and reflections and collages give the video an art deco style.

“Gold Into Dreams” follows with a soft, dreamy sound. Delicate guitar picking creates a relaxing folk style. “And The Devil” also stays on the slow side but incorporates the sitar, which echoes The Beatles’ “Across the Universe” and “Within You Without You.” BLWL gives it their own stamp with background violins and unique vocals.

“Aim A Little High” takes the album back to the 90’s with a hazy rock effect that gives the album its vintage vibe. The track has an upbeat, optimistic sound that continues into “Revolutionary Sound Squad.” The western guitar style mentioned in “High Like A Hurricane” ends the album in “Fade Out,” which combines with their Beatles-inspired sound.

Although Gold Into Dreams is considered part of the rock genre, BLWL does a good job of keeping a balance between loud and relaxing, which I think is the point of the psychedelic genre – finding a middle ground, creating feng shui, etc. Ejlersten’s light vocals and the band’s unity do just that.

Gold Into Dreams is a conglomeration of eras and instruments and, ultimately, shows BLWL’s growth from 2011. This combination of sounds comes together perfectly to create one sound specific to BLWL’s artistic style. - Vinyl Mag

Black Light White Light, “Gold Into Dreams”, album, out now
By Shira Rossiter | Category: Releases

Black Light White Light, “Gold Into Dreams”, album. Out October 14 2014

The cooler-than-cool Danish three-piece are back with an exceptional new release produced by Chris “Frenchie” Smith, whose CV boasts work with the likes of The Dandy Warhols, The Darkness and Jet. The album starts with rip-roaring grunge anthem “High like a hurricane”, featuring defiant guitar phrases and vocals laden with both angst and sincerity. Stomping track “Running” kick’s off with an arrangement not dissimilar to The Beatles in their psychedelic phase, before slowly contorting into a symphony of distorted guitar and vocals. As the song builds up to a grungy crescendo, you’ll be driven from bobbing to head banging by thumping drums and a strong vocal beat. “Operators” and “Sex and Fury” also stand out as anthemic desert-style foot stompers. A spaced-out, ‘feel good’ album – at once gritty and punctual.

The band has just finished their sophomore album 'Gold Into Dreams' released on 22. September 2014 and 14. October 2014 worldwide on Target Records / Records Records. The album is produced and mixed by American Grammy-nominated producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith (Trails Of Dead, Jet, The Dandy Warhols, Smog, Ringo Deathstarr) who flew to Denmark to record the album and live with the band in the process.

The album is mastered by Emily Lazar, President and Chief Mastering Engineer of The Lodge, NYC ( Foo Fighters' David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Vampire Weekend, The Raveonettes, Morrissey).

The Danish psych rocker's second album takes their psychedelic tunes and bohemian rock 'n' roll to wilder and more experimenting territories bringing in a true live feeling, but also heartfelt songs, catchy melodies as well as new surprising elements. Among many high lights is guest appearance by Grammy-winning violinist and string arranger Davide Rossi (Coldplay, Goldfrapp).

Black Light White Light released their debut album "Infrared Daylight" in September 2011, on the bands own imprint, Record Records. Recorded in North Hollywood, CA with producer Rick Parker (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Dandy Warhols, Von Bondies).

The inspiration is solidly grounded in 60s American psychedelic rock, just think of bands like The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane and The Seeds. The LP though also boasts a penchant for the Madchester sound and 90's shoegazer like The Verve, Ride and The Stone Roses.

The band has toured UK three time, and in 2011 they toured the US extensively. "If there is such a genre as psychedelic-pop-infused shoegaze-rock, Black Light White Light would be at its helm" - Diffuser.FM

"We have the premiere of the band's ten-minute-plus brain-warp, "Running," which shifts from jaunty acoustic guitars to swirling shoegaze-y guitars that seem to impossibly keep adding layer upon layer, before collapsing into a gentle coda of feedback and Echo" - AllMusic

"It is one of the albums I've listened to the most as a reviewer, and it keeps getting better every time. It has made me want to listen to music, and I'm reminded, that rock music is about more than who can play the wildest and loudest" - Lydtapet

"Gold Into Dreams. A spaced-out, ‘feel good’ album – at once gritty and punctual." - XYZ Magazine Brighton

"Returning with their trademark gravelly vocals, Black Light White Light have a certain shine about them which pierces through the murky veil of rock, capturing the attention of those listening within seconds" - Female First

"Neo-psychedelic rock from Copenhagen. No airs, no graces, just TUNES", Shell Zellner, Amazing Radio

"An act to keep an ear out for" - NXNE Music Festival

"Denmark's Black Light White Light play a brand of psych rock influenced by the genre's '60s pioneers, but bring a darker Scandinavian feel into the mix" - Pop Matters
