"BLD Inks Deal w/ Multi-Platinum Producer"

Spearfish rock band Blacklite District has been making some big moves lately.
In addition to releasing a four-song EP in January, the group also signed a development deal with Rock Shop Music Group.
Rock Shop Music Group was started in December by multi-platinum producer Jeff Blue. Blue discovered and signed artists such as Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit and Macy Gray.
Rock Shop focuses on writing and producing, as well as artist development and management.
Blacklite District guitarist Kyle Pfeiffer said the band has been together for eight years and played its first show when he was 12. The band members are all 18 or 19 now.
“I think that’s one of the keys to the point of where we’re at now — starting early,” he said.
Blacklite District plays rock music that includes elements of metal in addition to what Pfeiffer describes as “straight pop songs.”
He said the development deal with Blue will refine the band’s style.
“He’s looking for the radio style,” Pfeiffer said. “I guess you can almost call it the pop-radio style.”
The band, which also features vocalist Roman James, bassist Todd May and drummer
Kjay Culver, is not uncomfortable with taking its sound in a more mainstream direction for the sake of the deal, Pfeiffer said.
“We’re taking the style we already played and giving it a little more appeal,” he said.
That means Blacklite District’s blistering guitar solos and screaming vocals will be supplemented by radio-friendly choruses and solid pop structure.
The band’s EP, “Confessed,” was released Jan. 16, and is available at www.blacklitedistrict.com as a digital download and as a CD. The album will be released on iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers in March.
The band also plans to have a full-length album, currently titled “Scream Out,” ready by summer. Working with Blue by video conference from Los Angeles, Blacklite District is recording locally with producer Chris Ring.
Till then, don’t expect to see the band performing much in the area. Blacklite District is focused on the business side of its music.
“The music is the main feature right now, just making sure we have the hit songs,” Pfeiffer said - Rapid City Journal
