Black Love

Black Love

BandRockAvant-garde

Black Love. The antimatter Barry White. Crafting a forceful blend of primitive disorienting hard rock, using basic and unusual instrumentation, Black Love make break-up music: wretched and redemptive blues about annihilated love and the godly glamor of the enigma.

Biography

Primitive disorienting hard rock. Enigmatic downtempo noise rock. Underground ritualist postpunk. Much as the cosmos was influenced by the Big Bang, Black Love is influenced by another, slightly larger bang: that of being thrown under a bus after a cataclysmic, astral disaster of a break-up. Taking cues from influences as diverse as The Birthday Party, The Black Keys, Brian Eno, Faust, PJ Harvey, Magazine, Robert Palmer, Popol Vuh, Swans and Tom Waits, we forge our spirits in the tradition of our ancestors: pragmatism, stoicism, cynical mysticism, and songwriting wizardry. Black Love is as much a state of mind as it is an ideal for living. We learned it. We know it. We live it.

Insight

I have found a way
To give you away (x4)

Point out to the horizon
And then you pick a point on the line
And then you point out to the horizon
And then you pick a point on the line
And then you head that way (x2)
I have found a way
To give you away

Or you might dig down to China
Using your magical spade
Oh yeah, you might dig down to China
Using your magical spade
And then you might do a little tap-dance upon your
Phantom limb
And then you might do a little tap-dance upon your
Phantom limb
And then you find
That smile is made of sand
That smile was made of sand, my friend (x4)
I have found a way
To give you away
It’s the natural way
The understandable way
I have found a way (x2)

Yeah, you might dig down to China
Using your magical spade
Oh yeah, you might dig down to China
Using your magical spade
And then you might slide down that rainbow
To its
Logical end
And then you might slide down that rainbow
To its logical end
And then you find
That time is not your friend
That time is not your friend, my friend (x3)

I have found a way
To give you away
I have found a way
To give you away
And it’s the natural way
The understandable way

I have found a way
I have found a way
I have found a way
I have found a way.

Airlessness

Written By: David Cotner

I think about you all the time (circle)
And I wonder if I’m going
To think of you
At the end of all time (black circle)

Because I'm going to transcend
I’m going to rise (cross)
Because I am going to transcend
I’m going to rise (star)

I think about you (square)
Most of the time
And I wonder if you thought of me (black circle)
When you were mine

But, no – I'm going to transcend (green circle)
I’m going to rise
Yes, I am going to transcend (blue circle)
I’m going to rise

I think of things that I won’t miss (triangle)
When you don’t know me
I think of things that I won’t miss (yellow circle)
When you’re below me

But I am going to transcend (star)
I’m going to rise
Because I’m going to transcend (cross)
I’m going to rise

Barcelona, California (red circle)
Transatlantic flight (yellow circle)
Riding through the fields of fog (green circle)
In a French train past midnight (blue circle)
In a broken movie palace (star)
Falling down around us (black circle)
Saved from rain on a Paris street (triangle)
Threatening to drown us (blue circle)
The London nights, the giant foxes (star)
Making love in little boxes (square)
Over desert, to the beach (yellow circle)
I was so near where I want to be (red circle)
The deathless sky, the endless sea (blue or green circle)
A circle of salt is all that you left me (circle)
But I have pretzels - and you, you have snails (cross)
Yes, I - I have pretzels - and you, you have snails (black circle)

I’m – going – to – transcend (cards thrown one after the other)
I’m – going – to – rise (x3)
I’m – going to rise.

Yes and No

Written By: David Cotner

Don't tell me
That there's no hell
You haven't been there
There's nothing in there

You told me
That we're forever
(Just like the Devil)
And that should hold me

You might think
That when you die
There is nothing
No hereafter

I saw you
In the twilight
That was fading
With my nostalgia

Do I always have to be right?
Well, should I seek to be wrong?
Do I always have to be right?
Well, should I seek to be wrong? (x2)

And now we
Sit here idly
Rearranging keys
And now you’re strange to me

A photograph
Cuts the air in half
They have not made the bath
That can keep us clean

And now I
Have no faith in
Every place in
Which you loved me

A heaven?
Yes, it was, dear
We had all those years
And you have no tears

Do I always have to be right?
Well, should I seek to be wrong?
Do I always have to be right?
Well, should I seek to be wrong?
