"Black Love at The Smell"

"Black Love features former members of Gang Wizard and Saccharine Trust winding all the brontosaur-stomp elements of postpunk and kosmische together into a single brick-bulging roar. Fans of esoteric earshred from Galaxie 500 to Upsilon Acrux will stand as one mandrill and howl for more, just as the small posse rooted there did. David Cotner smiled, lit a wad of flash paper and intoned “We're all Black Lovers now.” Yes; all some dozen of us now proudly earbent." - Ron Garmon, L.A. Record, June 5, 2009 - L.A. Record

Bio

Primitive disorienting hard rock. Enigmatic downtempo noise rock. Underground ritualist postpunk. Much as the cosmos was influenced by the Big Bang, Black Love is influenced by another, slightly larger bang: that of being thrown under a bus after a cataclysmic, astral disaster of a break-up. Taking cues from influences as diverse as The Birthday Party, The Black Keys, Brian Eno, Faust, PJ Harvey, Magazine, Robert Palmer, Popol Vuh, Swans and Tom Waits, we forge our spirits in the tradition of our ancestors: pragmatism, stoicism, cynical mysticism, and songwriting wizardry. Black Love is as much a state of mind as it is an ideal for living. We learned it. We know it. We live it.
