"Canadian Musician Showcase"

Montreal has a vibrant hip hop scene and some of the best beats being laid down in that city belong to Q., Key, Senior, and PO, collectively known as Black Mob. Together since 2001 Black Mob – which is not to be confused with Atlanta’s Black Mob Group – has evolved over time into a tight, cohesive unit with a big sound and an even bigger message to impart to those people who buy the mix tapes, and who will hopefully buy the first full-length album. The message is one that, generally speaking, calls for tolerance, respect, and acceptance, while discouraging the use of violence to settle differences of opinion. Black Mob’s music frequently incorporates elements of reggae, which has helped to endear it to a wider audience than might ordinarily be the case.

It has also helped to land the band gigs with artists like Black Uhuru’s Michael Rose and Junior Reid; both of whom the group recorded singles with. Black Mob has been featured at a number of events in and around Montreal, including the Montreal International Reggae Festival and a major fundraiser for the first annual West Island Black Community Association. Very much a goal-oriented group, the members have set a number of targets for themselves: hoping within five years to become one of the biggest independent rap acts in North America. That’s no small goal, but if they can continue to release tracks like “Number One (Favorite Girl)” and “Hatin’ (Young Generation),” that goal is not totally out of reach. Black Mob is already getting airplay in the US, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Belgium, Switzerland, and Australia. - Canadian Musician

Bio

The group Black Mob has been together since 2001 with big plans for the Montreal rap music scene.. The group presently consists of members, Q, Key, Mako-C. They each bring their own individual strengths to the group. When asked what their music is about they explained that artistically they each have different styles, they each choose to rap about what is important to them. In other words they each make music that expresses their individual realities and all together it becomes "Mob Music".

Black Mob has performed in several venues across the island of Montreal, they shared the stage with lengendary Grammy winner Michael Rose of the fame Reggae band Black Uhuru at the 2007 Montreal International Reggae Festival, they were also able to release a single with the aforementioned Michael Rose called: "Number One (Favorite Girl)". Black Mob has also opened up for Collie Budz and Jim Jones, and also performed on a float for Montreal’s annual Caribana Festival. Along with those high profile performances they have also performed for the grand opening of the LaSalle Community Center, and also headlined the first annual WIBCA (West Island Black Community Association) fundraiser. As a Collective they feel events such as these are very important, so that they can let the younger generation see that older peers of the same circumstances can do something other than wrong and obtain their goals.

Black Mob has also previously recorded a single called “Hatin’ (Young Generation) with reggae legend Junior Reid. Both singles mentioned were produced by Grammy Nominated Apex Productionz, who also produced the Grammy nominated hit single "I Get Money" by 50 Cent.

The single "Hatin'" and the "City On Fire" mixtapes have definitely put Black Mob on the local and international radar of hip-hop groups to watch. Black Mob show great appreciation for the support they get from their home based fans in the West Island of Montreal and abroad. Black Mob has and will continue to release their individual and compilation Mix Tapes (CD's) for the public. Black Mob is currently working on their debut album that is promised to bring more of that "Mob Music". Black Mob recently finished filming their first big budget video, for their lead single “Easy” featuring rising dancehall star Munga. So with goals accomplished and many more to be fulfilled Black Mob intends on being considered one of the best ever to come out of Canada, if not North America.
