"Review of Black Pig's debut album"

Bald Freak Music, that eclectic label that boasts Q*Ball and Bumblefoot (two admitted favorites of mine), also is home to Black Pig. Manically opening with perhaps a couple of tongues in cheek with a metal opus called ÒI CanÕt Take LifeÓ, Black Pig likes to snub their noses at the traditional angst of modern music. The music ranges well between lounge, metal, pop, and even something similar to rockabilly without sounding contrived. Looking for the cure to derivative rock? Look no further.

Bio

Black Pig is a true musical experiment. In fall 2004, longtime friends Wayne Daren Schneiderman and Joseph Milazzo began a recording project that broke away from the norm and challenged them as artists. The idea was to convene once a week and record an original song. Each song was to be written and recorded in one session -- no exceptions. Working under a time limit forced the two writers to break down their inhibitions and let the spirit of the moment dictate the course of the songwriting. The end product was released in July 2005 under the title "It Is What It Is," a very fitting title if there ever was one. Seventy copies of the album were made and given out to friends.

Shortly thereafter, indie label Bald Freak Music happened to stumble upon Black Pig's music and approached the band with sincere interest in promoting and distributing their album. In response to this unexpected interest, Schneiderman and Milazzo began to assemble the pieces so that Black Pig could be realized as a full band and a live experience.

The Black Pig family has now grown to include guitarists Anthony Navarro and Barry Dobrin. Now a fully functional unit, Black Pig is ready to take on the world ... but is the world ready for BLACK PIG?
