"Black River Killers - Alma Beach review"

East-coasters-turned-west-coasters Black River Killers' new EP Alma Beach is a tight, five-song trip. Their stripped-down rock duo sound is reminiscent of early JEFF the Brotherhood, with melodic vocals sitting on top of some classic and simple guitar riffs. The EP opens with "Demons," a track that begins with a laidback guitar melody before giving way to the loud and fast nature of the rest of the release. The dynamic nature of this cut makes it a standout on Alma Beach.

The problem with Alma Beach is that the whole thing sort of sounds exactly the same. The dynamics of "Demons" don't follow throughout the whole EP, opting for a more shock-and-awe, loud and fast route for the rest of the record. The exception is "Fool" a slow, sad surf ballad in the middle of the EP. Live, Black River Killers might be really great, but that loud, almost constant thrashing can become a bit repetitive on a record. (Independent) - Exclaim.ca

"Black River Killers release new music video"

Rock n’ roll duo, Black River Killers, has released the music video for their latest single, “All the Same.” This is a follow up to their previous release, Alma Beach, in 2015. The track is very in-your-face and straight to the point, with elements of storytelling in their lyricism. Stream the video below - The Permanent Rain Press

Bio

Rock and Roll in it's rawest form. The kind that gets under your skin and makes you feel something deep in your gut. The kind that makes you want to bang your head and throw your own T.V. out your window. Black River Killers are a guitar, a drum set, and two brothers with unrelenting work ethic and a passion for creating music they love.

They're a garage band with a DIY ethos that is clearly present on their latest release, Alma Beach. They recorded the entire EP with their own equipment, in their own space and released it independently. Alma Beach blends elements of garage, indie, punk, and alternative rock to create "A tight 5 song trip, reminiscent of early Jeff The Brotherhood, with melodic vocals sitting on top of some classic and simple guitar riffs" - Corey Henderson (Exclaim.ca)

"The Ep opens with Demons, a track that begins with a laid-back guitar melody before giving way to the loud and fast nature of the rest of the release. The dynamic nature of this cut makes it a standout."

The band adheres to the "less is more" mentality when creating music. "In our opinion, great rock and roll doesn't need to be complicated" explains Fraser, "we limit the tools we use so we can create something simple and raw, with a more visceral kind of feel to it."

Playing in bands together for the better part of a decade, Connor Embleton and Fraser Boldon have also formed a passion for creating engaging, and energetic live performances that have captured audiences and allowed them to build a solid fan-base since forming Black River Killers in 2013 after moving across the country to BC.

The boys have recently made the move to  Nimbus recording studios to record two brand new tracks set to be released in early 2016. They are also currently filming two music videos, and making plans for a tour in the summer of 2016. "We're excited about the new material" explains Boldon, "Being in a proper studio will get us a better quality recording, while still keeping our same sort of unpolished sound."

In the end, Black River Killers want to make great rock and roll music that connects with people, and put on amazing live performances for those same people. Look out for them in 2016.
