"Black Sea “Keep Smiling”"

Alright, so here’s the deal about Black Sea- I love them. Ever since I started this blog I’ve followed these radical Huntington Beach locals, and to say the least, it’s been really cool seeing how they’ve grown in not only their sound but band status as well. “Keep Smiling” is their most recent release off Trabajo Records, and if you’re already a fan you’ll recognize some old favorites hidden in this pile of summertime drones and dreams. Do yourself a favor and check these guys out- they’re well worth it.

Dreams, breeze. Cloud watching, sun bathing. Hiking, being with your friends. Love, happiness. Conclusions, solutions. Running away with the ones you inspire, fulfillment. Stargazing, window shopping. Leaving, confusion. Honesty. Black Sea’s “Keep Smiling” is your sunny day amidst disappointment, the light shining through the clouds on a rainy weekend.

Sincerely,

California - Sincerely California

"Stream: The Black Sea- Keep Smiling"

Not to be confused with the first incarnation of the Fugazi/Frodus-related project, The Black Sea, Huntington Beach’s Cole Devine leads this trio, called just Black Sea, to wander lazily, combing the lo-fi sun-soaked beaches of shimmering guitar pop- what we all should be melting along to now that it’s the summer.

Released digitally on Bandcamp (for only $5) and on cassette from the folks at Trabajo Records, the eight songs on the band’s debut remind of Tape Deck Mountain, or Royal Baths’ singers’ flat croons atop Best Coast’s early Art Fag 7?s. All three of which, are good things.

We’re pleased to offer an album stream and a download of tune, “Coast” below. - The Holloweyed

"BLACK SEA- KEEP SMILING"

Californian trio BLACK SEA’s debut album, Keep Smiling, jumps happily onto the dream-pop bandwagon and directs it into wonderfully sunny territory. Complete with droning, reverb-heavy vocals, shimmering guitars and – most importantly – brazen tambourine-bashing, standout Fling is an infectious, pounding celebration of summer revelry. Bio

Black Sea is the recording project of Cole Devine from Huntington Beach California. His current release is a cassette tape entitled "Keep Smiling" on Trabajo records.
Black Sea's music takes 60's pop through a dreamy fuzz, sure to leave you in a comfortable daze. The deep, reverb heavy vocals, fuzzy, shimmering guitar and bass, complete with two-piece drums show us that Southern California may not be as sunny as we presume.
