BLACK SHEEP DIARY
"Chapter One" CD

This band handed their CD to me for a review after catching them live
at
SUDSY MALONES. Live, the
band comes off sounding very familiar to THE JIM CARROLL BAND. The
out-front
lyrics are mostly of the
spoken style with music layered behind. Subject matter is dark and
gloomy
with points of dark humor but
mostly on the deeper side of life. On this CD I can still hear the
comparison
to THE JIM CARROLL BAND
but theres an underlying guitar through most tracks reminding me of
guitar
work I heard on BRIAN
ENO™S solo work; in particular that guitar on "Burning Airlines"™
from the
1974 masterpiece "Taking Tiger
Mountain".™ I also must mention IGGY POP cause thats there in a
round-a-bout
kind of way just because
theres a dangerous, un-tame wild-dog element to this band that not only
surrounds you live as you
watch the band, but one that emanates from the speakers as you listen
to this
CD. Good band. See them
live. "Chapter One" deserves more than JUST to be a CD-R. I like
how they
use the squatter symbol on
the cover of the CD. Havent seen that in a while. A welcomed sight;
Bring it
back!-Shawn Abnoxious

Bio

Our band is diverse in terms of musical tastes/influences. Jimmy, Jesse, and Chris all grew up listening to the beatles,Led Zeppelin, Cat Stevens, The Cure, bit of 80`s rock etc... Brad is all about punk rock (The Clash being his favorite.) Braden listens to Radiohead, Iron and Wine, and obscure indie rock. This all comes together to give BSD an interesting, diverse, original sound. People who have heard us always say that they cannot think of another band that we "sound like." Also, Brad's song constructions do not have repetitive choruses, instead each of his songs are a story, a trip inside his emotionally retarded, periodically intelligent, and always bizarre mind.
