Bio
Formed in Belfast for Queen's University folk club, Blackthorn became firm local favourites in the pubs and clubs of the North. A chance meeting with the management of folk rock heroes, Horslips, propelled Blackthorn into national prominence, and they took two singles, "A Children's Winter" and "Flower of Scotland" into the Irish Top Twenty. A third hit single "Leaving Nancy" was denied the band, when the Furey Brothers heard a sneak preview of the track, and rush released their own version, getting the hit. Thanks guys! With various line up changes over the years one thing remains constant - entertainment; something the band provides effortlessly, whether they are playing for an intimate folk club, or more recently in front of a six thousand strong St Patrick's Day crowd in Belfast City Centre.
Classic folk material is the mainstay of the group's pedrigee, and now with the addition of Singer/Songwriter, Davy Muldrew, original material nestles alongside the familiar Blackthorn back catalogue.
