"WITHOUT doubt Scotland’s best electronic act"

Blacktzar - Fade into Life
WITHOUT doubt Scotland’s best electronic act. The trio released their Depeche Mode-sounding debut, Rust last year and Fade into Life is bigger and boulder. Singer Paul
Bryan sounds like Phil Oakey on Travelogue-era Human League as his rich baritone promises “this is your chance now, the change is coming”. I haven’t heard something as catchy and instantly
memorable coming from an unsigned or indie label act in Scotland so far this year. The song kicks off with the chiming guitars of U2 as the brains behind the music Tom McGarrigle adds
some Brian Eno-mood to the atmospheric beginning. Paul sings higher making it more rocky. It’s a perfect blissed-out New Order beginning. And then the chorus. From light to dark as Paul goes from Bernard Sumner to Phil Oakey. It’s just a perfect pop song and deserves to be massive. To make sure they hit all formats there are three remixes to get the clubbers dancing. The Boris mix is a electro werkout (correct). All Kraftwerk precision percussion. While the Loudleef mix hits the house music button adding echo to the vocals and ramping up the bpm. But for me it’s the fourth Mash Compact Disco Mix that hits the spot. Adding a disco bass and some laser synth slaps it’s bonkers. “The change is coming” indeed. - DAILY RECORD, SCOTLAND
