Biography

Born Dexter Jerome Hallman-Sneed, on August 21, 1970 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Blakfist was raised, along with his other siblings under the roof of his mother and grandmother, in the projects of Bossier City.
In his self-written book (currently in production) entitled “From A Seed To A Souljah™” he describes the projects in his words, “For one the grass was always green, I mean if it was greener on the other side, other words if life was better in other neighborhoods or more abundant I didn’t feel it of realize it. I mean growing up in the projects was okay for me. I had my niggaz, basketball and baseball I mean it was alright for me.”

To understand the complexities of the man you must gain an understanding of the paths that shaped him. At the age of fourteen he moved out to the west coast, California- Los Angeles, and to bring it home even more- South Central.

South Central at that time was HOT, hotter than the California sun that beamed seemingly almost 24/7. The 80’s were a decade of violence for probably more than 95% of the urban cities and as Blakfist would find out at the impressionable age of fourteen South Central was like night and day when compared to the solitude of the south.

In the words of Blakfist, A.O.D- Adapt Or Die, “It’s A.O.D. in everything I do” and adapt he did. After a few weeks into his new surroundings he found himself in and apart of the gang life and during that time it had such an influential effect on the black youth, that it seemed like a pre-requisite into adulthood.

A few years passed and as we move to the time when it all started we find ourselves back in Bossier City, Louisiana, the very projects from which he was born. This is where and when he had hooked up with his half-brother Hard Rock.

Hard Rock was putting it down harder than almost everyone in Shreveport and Bossier City and when Blakfist had touched down his brother approached him about teaming up and forming a duo thus giving birth to their group "DEXX –N- HARD ROCK", also this was the planting of the seed that would grow into the Souljah to come.

They started hitt’n up talent shows where ever possible and continue to write song after song and in the brief time they were together they had written enough songs to complete two full C.D.'s. Their back and forth, carefully timed delivery was reminiscent of their favorite duo of all time- RUN DMC, but their styles and concepts were definitely forged from the realities they faced in their everyday, individual struggles. One thing that was definitely obvious from the birth and that is the mix of west coast smoove and southern grime would be a hit amongst the locals.

After about 10 months of ripping shit in the south, Blakfist had to pack it up and move back to the west coast. The reasons for his leaving had solely to do with the racial climate that brewed in the south at that time. It all started one morning; during down time at Bossier High School, there was a sudden crowd rush in the direction of the school parking structure. Like everyone else Blakfist was curious to know what all the fuss was about. As he moved closer to the ruckus he noticed 10 white guys in an all out brawl with 2 brothers and as he moved closer he noticed that the 2 brothers were 2 of his friends- NOW IT’S ON!!!!

Blakfist jumped in and started swinging about after about 10 minutes of his version of ‘Fist Of Fury’ school officials, police and Channel 12 News were everywhere. What made this news headline was that the 10 White teenagers were from a gang called ‘Goat Ropers’- a White Aryan Nation by-product with pro KKK ideologies with a trailer park mentality.

Shortly after the school incident and Blakfist running the risk of being kicked out of school, coupled with not wanting to bring his elderly grandmother any unneeded stress, Blakfist was on board an airplane headed back to the west coast, this time with something different.

After spending his ‘important’ teen years in South Central his family rolled it up and moved north, to the San Fernando Valley, destination Pacoima and it is this city that he will represent and represent he did. Pacoima for Blakfist represented the citadel for street, gangster and realness more so than any other city in the San Fernando Valley. It is here where he and his uncle Eddie B. form their independent label To’e Ragg Recordz in 1988.

With the aide of Charlie B. who had the musical and industry knowledge and Doctor Ice who was at that time heavy in the rap game as part of the trio ‘U.T.F.O.’ went to work on putting Blakfist in the streets. His first single hit the streets in 1988 entitled ‘Wanted’. At that time he was known as ‘Simply Dexx’ and it was a collaborated effort with Doctor Ice and Simply Dexx slammed a hit on the B-side called ‘The Wiz’

Blakfist has always been one who thirsts for knowledge and as you will learn that within his complexities lay a triune nature: street, political and spiritual that always needed to b

Don't Change

Written By: Blakfist

Blakfist(Intro)

Thank you Father for my seed Jah Jah and to my Sistah's that's going thru it, you will go thru it. God said that we will all go thru some trials and tribulation (so exercise ya faith)
and don't change and in the midst of a storm- don't change.

Blakfist-

First lesson, a problem aint a problem when you got life you can strive or fail, but it's a living hell when ya stressing. Ya submission to grief is killing me, now I got you screamin "you go boyyyy" cause ya feelin me. Now he got ya name tatted on his chest, you feel loyal so you tatt his name on ya breast now you feel it's all good cause it's love you gave up making yo' cream to help him chase his dreams. Now time goes by and he turned into a fiend chasing women but don't loose ya self-esteem sistah, teary eyed you go to ma cause momma knows best she said re-focus, let it rest, but you didnt listen. Now it's you doing those thangs that you hated, soul scarred, bed hard things you created. A woman scorned, heart torn and she's tryin to get it back, back to the way it was when you were in love, but things be different now, you started living foul and kinda wild now you got a child. Plus other major issues you aint seeing some call it baggage, but i call'im demons. My Sistah's you need to exorcise them devils, seek the Kingdom first and it'll take you to a higher level. I'll put that on my name, ya'll fine, devine with a strong mind- Don't Change..

Chorus-

Don't Change; Don't Change
Keep it real Babyyyy
Don't Change; Don't Change
Ooo Black woman don't change on me
Don't Change; Don't Change
Keep it real babyyyy
Don't Change; Don't Change
Now it's time to get back on track

Blakfist-

You my shield from them verbal bullets when bustahs start hate'in and debatin and chillin waiting in the cut for me to slip don't trip stay true to ya woman essence stay precious, in life lessons can be rude when it come to culture they will toss'im like darts at ya heart until they see that they hurt' ya. Gotcha thinkin your reflection in the mirror's rosey now you hating whatcha see and loving what you don't see. From the womb to the tomb sistah's keepin our seeds pure and making sure we're not a nation doomed or consumed by self-hate it'll cause scorn after God you're the healer of our un-born, the first preacher to our un-born, the first teacher to our un-born now you're sworn in to breast feed our seed til it hurts and keep us on point so i'll anoint you and the choice gets dimmer as you surrender to the call on ya soul to expose foes so when we enter
in this afterlife there be no pain, where there's no rain, where there's no shame, where there's no games, where there's no chains, where there's no fame what's in a name. Cause in a moments time we will all be the same- Don't Change

Chorus-

Don't Change; Don't Change
Keep it real Babyyyy
Don't Change; Don't Change
Don't Change up on me
Don't Change; Don't Change
Keep it real babyyyy
Don't Change; Don't Change
In A Moments Time we will all be the same

Blakfist(Outro)

Damn, get so strange with so much change. I mean I can take change in clothes, I can even take change in egos, but I dont want change in my women. Don't change, stay the same- Don't Change

Mama Pray 4 Me

Written By: Blakfist

Blakfist(Intro)

Madea, I know you up in heaven, doing ya daily grind. (Now as you pass Yeshua please) grab HIM by the hand and intercede for me. Ya young souljahs down here doing too much. (All of us as souljahs are doing too much) But anyway here's my story (here's my story)...

Blakfist-

Shedding tears is a common trend in a vicious cycle it'll stifle my growth and erase my hopes to cleanse my sins. At night I often stay awake from the sonic boom from a fo-fo(.44) sounds solo only takes one slug to make the Earth shake. Feeling chills, start feeling ill, I feel like someone died, some where a mother cried, some homies feel like it's time to ride. Thank God it's not me this time the California king got me safe. Momma runnin to the front door with tears runnin down her face screamin "where's my boy? Where's my boy? Where's my boy?" Clingin to the hope in Jesus that her lil boy dont come home in pieces. As I open the door to her room all I see on her face is Stress, (stress), stress, stress...

Chorus-

I don't mean to cause you grief
so when you fall down on ya knees
(please) momma pray for me

Voice over-
Out of the depths of her so-oul she said please please Jesus draw him nearer to thee well. There'll be heart ache and pain yeah. OH Ohhh
When ya fall down on ya knees please momma pray for me.

Blakfist-

Im not immune to the pain and suffering. While I was young and hustlin I was duckin gun slungs with my name written on them in blood. Cause living here is kinda scary(scary), blaze up a blunt, sip on yak while I read the obiturary. Fully zooted I feel like committing suicide, jump in and drive writing lyrics while going 5-5 to 6-5 on the I-5. Gave in to my enemy- temptation caused sin in me, cant stand red tape dread yellow tape now im shedding tears at another wake. My tears are washed away from the pouring of a lil liquor on the concrete while I remenisce on my loved ones you know i miss ya. Yes! we'll meet again at the cross roads up in the 3rd heaven on day number 7...

Blakfist-

Now, my life is an open book, 34 years walking on sharp thorns that's what led to my swollen foot. Fall on my knees continue to pray for blessings going by the rule stay smooth , dodge questions in hopes to keep my enemies guessing. Madea was good for saying, she wasnt playin, dont let little girls run the streets fast, a hard head makes a soft ass. As life goes on I'm either right or wrong in reciting my song I contemplate on my scenery while taking to the head more greenery. Oh my God how I miss Eddie B, my brother Loso and D1, Little Rod, Big Man and Jodie. With so much pain in my soul cause she's alone Yeshua put finger tips on my big sister and bring her home...

Blakfist(outro)

Hey Yeshua, I know we are living in these last days.(please momma pray for me) Your return is any day, so on my knees I pray(as I fall down on my knees) that when YOU return yo young souljah down here (yo souljah down here) YOU find me worthy(You find me worthy) YOU find me worthy (YOU find me worthy) (please) (Please momma pray for me.) Shaloo Shalom Yeru-Shalayim...Shaloo Shalom Yeru-Shalayim........LOSO LOSO....LOSO LOSO
