Bio

Kevin Coney, professionally known as Blakk Reel, is more than just your typical rapper from the hood.  With years of lessons learned, in reference to a typical lifestyle in South East Georgia, Blakk Reel has evolved into one of the most electrifying artists in his region.   His explosive style, which is full of energy and authentic verbiage, pushes him to an unbelievable level of talent.  With a style that can be related by people on a global scale, Blakk Reel’s music provides inspiration and hope for those experiencing challenging or difficult times.

Kevin “Blakk Reel” Coney was born in October of 1986 in Augusta, Georgia.  At an early age of 3, he was introduced to writing 4 bar verses by his mother who was also known for her unique lyrical content.  At the age of 9, his family moved to Douglas, Georgia where an immediate turn of events took place.  With his mother fighting a severe drug addiction, Blakk was forced to grow at a faster rate, while experiencing extreme emotional turmoil throughout his life.  Without a doubt, Blakk Reel was forced to be the man of the house at a very early age.

By the age of 14, Blakk Reel had earned the respect of the streets as well as gained notoriety of being the best freestyler in the city.  Freestyling and writing rhymes provided an outlet for this young aspiring artist, which helped him cope with the challenges that he quite often faced.  He battled underground legends in the city of Douglas Georgia and became a prominent figure for his peers looking to transition into the music industry.  Kevin considered music his “time machine” as it helped him get way from the pain and suffering within.

At the age of 15, Blakk Reel became a father and his aspiration for becoming a successful recording artist was severely hindered.  With the mentality of being a product of his environment, Blakk Reel dropped out of school and committed to the streets.  Being young, Blakk felt that this was the only way to take care of his child and ultimately his family.  Selling drugs, robbing, and neighborhood gang affiliation are all a part of Kevin’s life.  After years of being in the streets, he was continuously pushed to get back into music by family and peers alike.  It wasn’t abnormal for Blakk and others to freestyle while conducting business in the trap, and since the streets related to his delivery, Blakk decided to try his music career again.

Blakk Reel released his first underground cd with his cousin Slow Talk titled “Real Beasts.com”.  This cd lead to the duo performing in Fitzgerald, Georgia at a talent show that was hosted by the legendary DJ Bigga Rankin.  After a highly energetic performance, the duo won the “Rep Yo City” talent showcase and Blakk Reel was recognized and was eventually referred to an up and coming record label known as Crooked Coffee Entertainment.

Kevin signed a 3-year deal with Crooked Coffee Entertainment and assumed the name of Blakk Boii.  He dropped his first single titled “Go Stoopid” which was considered an underground success that secured radio play throughout South East Georgia.  While under this contract, Kevin was the opening act for artists like BloodRaw, Field Mob, Rasheeda, and Rich Boy to name a few.  Due to internal disputes and differences of opinions, Kevin decided to leave the label in search of a better opportunity.  While in search of a better opportunity, Kevin was arrested for possession with intent to distribute, a substantial amount of narcotics.  He resolved this matter by spending 7 months in jail and he was released on probation, taking full advantage of the first offender act.

With a second chance to fulfill his dream of one day becoming a successful recording artist, Kevin met with the CEO of WoodYard Entertainment where an immediate bond was secured.  Kevin was intrigued by the vision of WoodYard Entertainment and went on to change his name from Blakk Boii to whom we now know as Blakk Reel.  The first video titled “From The Hood” was a remarkable success and his second video for the song titled “Why I Came” is a classic.  Blakk Reel’s demo cd is currently being worked nationally and he’s working on his first studio album titled “One Way Ticket”.

Blakk Reel strives to open doors for other artists living in the struggle.  His goal is to be known as an established recording artist with numerous accolades and plaques surrounding his recording studio.  Being associated with a company that strives on personal and professional success, the sky is the limit for WoodYard Entertainments recording artist, Blakk Reel.
