Blak Lyons self titled EP is an Alternative Southern Rock EP.
Songs on the EP blur the line between garage rock attitude, with bluesy country-fried breath... all delivered with a sort of laid back west coast spirit.
Songs like "California" and "The End" have a very end of the day feel to them. The singer spits his lyrics hoarse, never really yelling, but sounding as if he has been. Low rock organ and dreamy surf guitar add a shade of color to their more ballad songs.
The EP does have some pretty strong drawbacks, in that that it sounds as if it was recorded at separate times in separate places- perhaps the band only had a studio budget for some of the tracks. The lack of production on some tracks is distracting (perfect example being "Whiskey"), especially when stood up side by side with tracks that sound wonderfully mixed and mastered, such as "Roulette" or "California". Also the drums sound very canned and repetitive throughout about half the songs- and mixing them loud doesn't help matters.
Altogether Blak Lyons is an EP that definitely has it's moments, and also has it's weak points.

Blak Lyons is a band formed in 2009 by cousins Ezequiel de Lima (guitar) and Diego Antonelli (bass) along with Tomás Giambruni (vocals and rhythm guitar) and Francisco Bianchi (drums) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The band revives the roots of 60s and 70s rock, such as country, blues and folk, recreating them with a contemporary vision to create an original and fresh guitar-driven rock. Their sound is influenced by mitical bands such as The Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Leon Russell and Led Zeppelin and contemporaries such as Kings of Leon, Black Keys, My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses. In 2012, they released an independent EP with indie label Cincope Records.
In October 6th, 2014 they released their first LP, recorded at ROF Records.
The album was previewed to the fans at the mythical local Roxy Live venue on October 3rd, with a new audiovisual show, where the songs were accompanied by beautiful natural sceneries and road trip psychedelia.
In "Bygones", the band keeps their youth frenetic spirit but with a more mature and refined sound, as they explore new horizons and expand their sonic range. Recorded at ROF Records in Buenos Aires, the band worked with a producer (Santio Ferreras) for the first time to polish their sound. The band displays their indie rock with influences of the 60s & 70s country-, blues- & folk-rock, yet with a contemporary and current attitude (“Haunt”, “Step into the wild”, “The Rover”, “The Rumble”). But the band doesn’t stop at what they already know and broadens their horizons with song like “Incas”, “Footsteps” and “Sail On”, where they demonstrate their capacity to make bigger reverberated songs, imagining what it would be like to play bigger venues.
The LP was largely financed by a crowdfunding project through the Latin American platform Idea.me, where the followers collaborated with money for the creation of the album in exchange for unique and exclusive benefits.
“Bygones” is an album for listeners who still believe and enjoy guitar-driven rock music with natural analogic sound and the synergy created between four real musicians playing in the same room; reminiscing the best of the past but always looking to the future.
