Bio

Devised of the mercurial song writing talents of Gil De Ray and Daniel Towler, the two have been co-conspirators for many years whilst working and releasing material for their own separate music projects. Gil with his solo project Cody High School “Baddest Fastest” and The Purple Om Eaters “Lysergic Bubblegum” and Daniel with High Priests “Self Prescribed Medication”.

There was a certain inevitability that one day the two would get together and make something magikal.
“We both wanted to make an album that would encapsulate all the things we love about music. We wanted to make one of those albums that has the ability to make you wanna dance and then make you wanna lie down and cry. And we succeeded.” Gil De Ray

With a shared love of 60’s garage, psych, rock n roll and hip hop, the musical template for what they were about to create was already in place. Balanced against their other shared inspiration of literature and the writings of such greats as Crowley, Rimbaud through to Fante and Bukowski, the philosophy and attitude of what was to become BlakMagikSociety was written in the stars.

And so on the Full Moon of January 19th, 2011 the journey began. Work on their debut album “UATWMF” roared into action. Seven months later and the album is now complete and here for all and offers a heady brew of mind melting bio dynamic garage punk, soul and psychedelia.
"This album is the soundtrack to the modern wasteland of our times, raw, angry, broken, but yet fuelled with a near pathelogical optomism for what we can achieve if we just stop fucking about and put our minds to it,we could be so good together-just like these songs!" - Daniel Towler

Having drafted Gil’s collaborator in The Purple Om Eaters, guitarist and vocalist Feedback Jack in to the fold, the band have expanded to a 3 piece for the purpose of maximum Live sonic destruction. The band recently played their live debut, on the Full Moon of course August 13th.
“BlakMagiKSociety got on stage and people swarmed 'round. A trio with guitars, percussion and an i-phone kept up the beat. Instantly heating up the air with a mix of Soul Punk, Psychedelic Garage tunes and a couple of rather romantic Doo-Wop chants.” Liveatyourlocal

The duo also creates a monthly, Full Moon radio show, unleashing a melting pot of music and literature, blending readings of their favourite writers with choice musical selections. A glance into the mind of BlakMagikSociety. With growing success which recently a led to a collaboration with the acclaimed author Tony O’Neill entitled “Balls” where the author reads a short story taken from one of his books interwoven by accompanying music written and performed by BlakMagikSociety.
“BMS are making some of the most twisted grooves out there. Check them out and have a drug, alcohol and scuzzy rock ‘n’ roll induced black-out.” Tony O’Neill

"The second album is already written and will be recorded as soon as possible. Its called"heavy load (we are the evil)" and is a heady mix of punk, poetry, psyche rock, sex soul and 60's californian sun drenched harmonies, think Leonard Cohen fronting the manson family with the MC5 holding the beat. There's a lot of love on it,but theres a lot of tension as well-just like these times! We are also working on solo albums, more literary podcasts, video ideas and possible books. Were not just a band ,we are a company,we are interested in expanding the horizons of what constitutes entertainment in these weird, uncertain times.
Blakmagiksociety is a beautiful dream that is always on the verge of total annhilation-Pretty perfect really!" Dan Towler
