"Blame it on Cain: Big Down Under"

The second album in nine years for Milwaukee hard-rockers Blame It On Cain reveals just how much vocals can inform the perception of a band. For all of BIOC’s assured moves that blur the line between classic hard rock and current commercial radio metal, lead singer Sam Boettcher maintains the youthful, urgent tone of a kid fronting a fledgling pop punk band. What could have been an annoyance or distraction turns instead to be a fortuitous dichotomy that doesn’t wear out its welcome over the course of Big Down Under’s eight songs.

The one song the band claims to be their punk effort, oddly, finds Boettcher in one of his more mature moments. And it still sounds pretty metallic. When Steve Draganchuk and Steven Anderson employ their respective guitar and bass on power chords, riffs and solos, the heaviness quotient increases considerably. The quartet’s versatility extends to a respectable acoustic-led, mid-tempo power ballad and a Stone Temple Pilots remake that isn’t executed to out-grunge the original. - Shepherd Express

"Poppy Rock / Rockin Pop"

A strong debut album from the 4 piece Milwaukee area band known as Blame It On Cain (BIOC). The CD 'Rhythm Schism' is kind of sneaky good (and I mean that as a compliment). There isn't an anthem like rocker. There isn't a gimmicky single or flashy guitar histrionics. Instead you'll find a collection of well written and extremely catchy tracks that are simply damn fine pop/rock songs. There is of course the obligatory sappy ballad if you're into that sort of thing. This reviewer isn't but hey, the ladies will probably dig it!

The production quality of the CD is top notch. The opening bass line of 'Atuna' is a fine example of the overall well balanced clean sound found throughout 'Rhythm Schism' . The artwork is well done and the booklet includes full lyrics to all ten tracks.

Bottom line: Blame It On Cain straddles the line between pop and rock with enough elements of each to satisfy fans of both genres. Standout tracks include: 'Yesterday's Happy', 'Atuna', '12 Gauge Handshake' and 'Give Me Money'.

"Blame it on Cain"

Good old fashion Rock N Roll is hard to come by these days. Just when you think “What happened to rock!?”, or “Rock is dead.” you find bands like Blame It On Cain that help restore your faith in Rock N Roll. These guys have all the right ingredients: Cool Rock Guitar Licks, Drums That Make Your Head Bang, and Vocals That Say, “Hey, we’re a fun rock band keeping the music alive!!”. If I just confused you, that’s pretty normal, so lets start over.

Ever heard of the Rolling Stones? That is Rock N Roll. Ever heard of Britney Spears? That is NOT Rock N Roll. Blame It On Cain is Rock N Roll, not Britney Spears. Was that a better explanation of their sound?

The guitar riffs in this band’s music are a very important part of the songs. They are catchy rock riffs that a lot of bands forget to create. Many times you’ll hear a song and the guitar part is just 3 chords over and over with tons of distortion. Ok, there may be 5 chords. But still, they aren’t riffs like Blain It On Cain’s, they are just power chords throughout the entire song. You know what I’m saying… Now, there are plenty of bands that play or played mostly power chords that I love, like Nirvana, but now I’m getting off the topic.

Back to the topic. New music needs more of these guitar riffs.

Blame It On Cain is also a FatCat Radio artist. IndieShows loves FatCat Radio (not in that way) because they have excellent taste in music, and Blain It On Cain is proof of that. PLUS, Blame It On Cain uses IndieShows… see::

What more could you ask for? Now, if you get addicted to these guys, just blame it on Cain. ha… ha.

Bio

Blame it on Cain is an original rock band that "blurs the lines between classic hard rock and current commercial radio metal."

They were formed in 2007, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and released their debut album Rhythm Schism in 2008. The band had some success as they played throughout the midwest in support of the record. Their song Yesterdays Happy was included on a nationally released compilation CD from Versailles Records that was distributed as a bonus disk included with the Guns N' Roses tribute album, Double Talkin' Jive. Their song Miami Beach was  the theme song for the animated web-based series Boston Brewed Bar.

The band went their separate ways in 2009, but reformed in 2015. After writing a batch of new songs, the band hit the studio with producer Eric LaBrosse of Cherry Pit Studios to record their latest record, Big Down Under. There has been a very positive reception locally, including some great reviews by the local press. The band is working on getting their music out to the masses and have been hard at work, writing and recording their next album.
