Bio
Blaming Lupe is the brainchild of Newfoundlander Erin Simms. Born in Saint Johns Newfoundland she grew up in the small town of Gander where the musical mayhem inside her mind began to brew. What better way to cultivate a natural born rock star than fifteen years of classical voice training?
Her first band the Classic Radios played through and around the thriving St. Johns music metropolis. They even shared stages with Sloan and other well-known bands from the area. When she picked up and left the world of classical music for the unknown and uncharted land of jazz she knew she was on the right track. From the depths of the St. FX jazz program formed pop rock sensation Box Set who thrived in the community of Antigonish. She then fled to Halifax after her degree was complete and found herself in the whirlwind that has become her alter ego Blaming Lupe. Together with Ashley Chalmers of the Chronicles and High Planes Drifter drummer, they teamed up with Isaac Mills and Adam Hargreaves (later replaced byChuck Warren of Doctor Dfunct fame) to let loose the mess inside her head.
The sound is a fresh take on rock, melting jazz and electronica, stewing with acrobatic vocals and intense rhythmic undertones. Youll find no four on any floor, no sir, you will not. You WILL find it incredibly difficult not to move or not to be moved. Any listener who falls into the world of Lupe will not return unharmed
or uncharmed.
The Debut album Blaming Lupe: Studio Live has Halifax locals frothing at the mouth in anticipation. The impact they made was immeasurable when they joined the Redlight Concert Series this past year with Damien Alexanders Live Village Records. They turned heads, opened wallets and incited cries of insanity
not only from Erin. Since then they have been infiltrating some of the best venues in Halifax like the Marquee Club and Stage Nine. This is not the end, but merely a taste of whats to come.
