"Blank Paper @ Webster Hall Studio"

"Last Friday night Webster Hall was the venue of the moment. The street was lined with film and television trucks, moderately famous musicians and fans desperately hoping for a ticket to see rock legend Jack White take the stage.

Little did the anxious street know that right next-door in The Studio, something very special was about to happen. In front of an intimate audience in the underground venue - electronic trio Blank Paper brought their intense "synth-pop" style to the party and proved that electro can still have soul.

Their humanization of electronic music was not only reigned in with exceptional rhythm but somehow the immense presence of Ling Ling (K. Marie Kim), as she danced and sang with incredible passion managed to break preconceived notions of what dance music is and can be.

TBone (Taylor Bense) showed a unique vision and taste with intriguing sounds wonderfully layered in what can only be described as the crossbeats of Blank Paper's Little Dragon-esque electric symphony.

The incredibly impressive energy of the band radiated in the room as heads began to bob and hips began to rock and the audience was reminded that there is something very real and very heartfelt that exists in the dusty corners of dance music - behind the mediocre DJs and standardized sounds looped on cheap software in the city’s tiny bedrooms.

The impressive substance and sustaining power of Blank Paper is most definitely worth your time - no matter what your usual taste in music, these guys will open your mind to synth-based dance with their compulsively listenable tracks and the honesty in their energy onstage." - Feast of Music (Freya Wilcox)

"Blank Paper @ The Studio at Webster Hall"

"I expect musicality to be a quality of the music I listen to. I also
expect creativity, melodiousness… I realize I expect a lot.

Luckily, I received on Friday night at The Studio at Webster Hall for
Blank Paper’s first show. The Brooklyn-based electro-pop trio used
heavy bass and dancy beats to get the increasingly happy crowd moving. The heavily distorted sound was cut by the R&B-infused lungs of K. Marie Kim, whose mix of sultry and sweet gave a depth to the sound, lifting it grades above the average electro-synth-pop
act we’ve grown accustomed to– fun to bop your head to, but many times lacking substance. With Taylor Bense mixing beats and Chris Holdridge on drums (love), the trio is made up of some stupidly talented musicians who showed little of the jitters or hold-ups usually involved in a first show.

Will be at the next one. One suggestion – more rapping." - The Brooklyn Babe (Claire Elise)

Bio

Brooklyn-based Blank Paper is the result of four eclectic and distinctive musical backgrounds converging into one path of heartfelt alternative synth-pop. Blending a diverse set of genres ranging from electronica to soul to rock, the band originated in New York City in 2012. After their previous projects disbanded, Taylor Bense (synth, keys, guitar), Marie Kim (vocals, synth, keytar), Chris Holdridge (drums, sampler pads), and Cory Sterling (bass, synth bass) came together naturally to write and perform, sharing their passion for feel-good music with a darker edge.

Artists like The Talking Heads, Kavinsky, Little Dragon, The Knife, and The Gorillaz inspire their sound, but the band's originality and musicianship take Blank Paper to a new level of innovation within the pop context. The new single "Ambien" features a tasteful display of production and engineering skills, mixing glistening 80s-style keyboard stabs with huge arena-sized live drums and soulful vocals with just a touch of vocoder. Fierce, sexy, and haunting, the track is a voyeuristic look into the dark side of love and obsession backed by compulsively danceable instrumentals.
