Bio

Since its inception, BLASE has been in transition. “The group”, which was formed by Keschia Smith-Jones, has had multiple transformations physically and most importantly spiritually. When the group (originally named Grace) first began, the vision was to have 5 females with beautiful harmony of voice and of spirit, but that was not to be. Accepting their calling in other areas of ministry, two of the members departed the group. This left three committed members to carry the torch which would become BLASE.
Keschia, (along with Michelle York and childhood friend Sharletha Woodard, ) felt that there were believers who were thirsty for their style of ministry, and that witnessing must go beyond the “four walls” of the church. Songs from their debut cd, such as “Holy Ghost”, “Pray”, and “Ooo...”, speak directly to segments of young people who often feel that they have no place in the body of Christ. The Urban/Inspirational sound and style of BLASE, helps to convey their foundational Christian messages in a way that is relevant to these ever changing times.
On their sophomore project, BLASE has continued their transformation. With a more mature sound, this project entitled “LIVE and LEARN”, encourages the listener to be strong through mistakes and missteps that we all encounter as human beings. They want us to understand that all have sinned and fallen short, but through prayer and faith you can be restored. The defiantly delivered song “Oh No”, tells everyone that BLASE will not be going back to any former life, because everything that they do now is grounded in Christ. The lead single, “My Gift”, with its worshipful melody and lyrics, explains very simply the reason these ladies “do what they do.” Other standout tracks “Better” and “I’m Changed”, further communicate the concept of “personal growth through spiritual transformation.” And for BLASE the transformation continues.
Most recently, Sharletha Woodard decided that it was time to settle down and raise a family, and has taken a hiatus from the group. Of course the departure of Sharletha was met with sisterly joy and sorrow, but just like the “ram in the bush” that the Lord provided to Abraham, He also provided for BLASE.
New member Melanie Raby, hails from the crescent city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Her versatility as a singer, keeps the vocal integrity of BLASE and let’s them continue to deliver the tight harmony that is the foundation for the group. God’s move will never stop.
As BLASE continues to evolve, their ministry of encouragement, and personal growth through spiritual transformation, will not be lost in the physical make up of the group. BLASE is still BOLD in the LORD AND SPIRITUALLY EXCITED!
