Phatal Record's very own Blastphumis and Dior Ashley Brown made an appearance at DC's Spit Dat! open mic on Thursday, October 29, 2009. This Phatal duo performed "Thin Line" from the soon-to-be released SMOKE EP and "Icebreakers" (see video clip) from the sequel LP, MIRRORS, to a full house.

Phatal Record's own Blastphumis, DJ Awkward Silence and Dior Ashley Brown are one of six acts performing live at one of DC's hottest hip-hop showcases, The Beat Clash, on Jan. 19, 2010 at Bohemian Caverns.
A Carry-Out Productions event, The Beat Clash allows various local DC producers to showcase their beats battle-style. Between "beat clashes" local hip-hop acts perform live on stage. Blastphumis and Dior Ashley Brown of Phatal Industries will be performing at Hoyas Helping Haiti: A Haitian Benefit Concert this Saturday, Feb. 27. 2010. The show will kick-off at 9 pm at Georgetown University's Bulldog Alley (O ST & 37th ST NW) and also include performances by Rafrechi, DC's very own Haitian band, and D-Lock & Medik, hip-hop artists representing Haiti, Jamaica and New York.
When Blastphumis and Dior hit the stage you can expect to hear bits of Haitian history and culture told through Haitian poetry followed by Phatal Records' original tracks emulating the "love, pain, and life" of Haiti. Performing alongside the Phatal duo will be special guest, GYPC of Likeblood Entertainment.

After much anticipation, Phatal Records' own BLASTPHUMIS is dropping his debut EP, Smoke. And what a better day to release it than 4/20?! This JOINT show will include live performances by Blastphumis himself and Soul Cannon of Baltimore. The opening act will be D.C.'s own Likeblood Entertainment and live art will be painted by local area artist, Felix "Flex" Osuchukwu. The show promises to bring the hip-hop and art loving crowds together for a fun night of smoke-inspired music!!!

D.C. rapper/skateboarder/actor Blastphumis (aka Jason Wright) may not have a lot of records under his belt, but his debut EP, Smoke, proves he knows what he’s doing. After graduating from a D.C. arts high school, Wright worked with several area artists and founded his own production company, Phatal Industries. Although Phatal is comprised of a film production company, a skateboard company and a record label (SO MANY HATS), it looks like Wright is focusing on his music for now, and I’m not a bit upset.
Smoke is eight tracks of maybe the most comfortable rapping I’ve heard ever. Blastphumis isn’t a huge name, but he raps like it is and you should already know that. Backed by the awesome production work of DJ Awkward Silence, the songs are smooth, comfortable and full of style. “Thin Line” is the clear standout on the EP. The sample (of what exactly, I’m not sure) is nothing short of epic. This is the stuff of legend. “Show Me Love,” with Eze Jackson of Soul Cannon, is an ode to the nightlife and another great track. The whole thing rounds out nicely with “Karma,” a chilled-out dreamy song that makes it feel like you’re coming down softly from the high of Smoke.
But Smoke isn’t meant as Blastphumis’ opus just yet. Most tracks were recorded years ago and are released more as a preview to his upcoming full-length (appropriately titled), Mirrors, due out at the end of the year. According to DJ Awkward Silence, the tracks on Mirrors are much more recent and will more accurately represent Blastphumis’ current sound. In the meantime, the Smoke EP comes out April 20 on Phatal. Da only way U can listen 2 dis CD & not like it is if U're dead stuck on producers using 808's & futuristic synth sounds on da songs U listen to!!! Bio
Blastphumis is a recording artist, skateboarder, and actor out of Washington, D.C. but began his artistic career in his hometown of Los Angeles at the age of 13. He is the founder of the D.C. based entertainment company PHATAL INDUSTRIES (www.phatalindustries.com) which is comprised of PHATAL RECORDS, PHATAL FILMS and PHATAL SK8BOARDS. A graduate of D.C.'s Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Blastphumis has worked with other local recording hip-hop artists such as Yung E, Gypc and Mbea da 1 of Likeblood Entertainment, Sim City, David "Professor" Burl, Deja Belle, EZ Jackson of Soul Cannon and others. When he isn't skating at Freedom Plaza he is in the studio or out performing and networking with the rest of the Phatal team. His debut EP with Phatal Records is entitled "Smoke" with the LP "Mirrors" to follow.
DJ Awkward Silence is a D.C. native and also a graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Awkward Silence has accumulated a variety of artist experience in music, acting, directing, and writing since he was young. Although previously dabbling in electronic music, he began seriously producing hip-hop instrumentals after hearing his close friend Blastphumis’ first recorded tracks. Raised in the digital age, Awkward Silence makes his music using Garage Band and a shareware waveform editor. He’s been deeply grateful to work with local D.C. rap artists like Blastphumis and Likeblood.
