The Players: Robin McAuley, lead vocals; Dave Bates, lead guitar; Bob Pace, rhythm guitar; Bjorn Englen, bass, backup vocals; Brett Chassen, drums, backup vocals; Stu Simone, keyboard, backup vocals.

Material: McAuley is known as the singer for MSG (McAuley Schenker Group) and now he’s gone solo. The set included hit songs “Gimme Your Love,” “Anytime,” and “Love is Not a Game” and the soothing ballad “Lonely Nights,” along with “Loaded” from Elements of Friction. The impact was contagious as fans crowded the stage, obviously enchanted with curiosity and wanting to hear more.

Musicianship: Robin McAuley and his musicians are seasoned professionals who don’t disappoint. All of them have their craft perfected to the elite level. Together, they seductively rocked the audience with outstanding skills and fearless glam-rock style. Robin McAuley’s new band could be compared to groups such as Aerosmith, Velvet Revolver, Star-F*ckers, and Hollywood All Starz.

Performance: Opening up with the MSG song “Bad Boys,” an energetic and enthusiastic tone set the mood for the evening. With platinum hits performed by a talented band and outstanding vocalist, the audience’s attention was instantly captured.

McAuley cheerfully signed autographs during the set, smiling ear to ear as he shook hands with his fans. Special guests Bobby Kimball (Toto vocalist) and Stuart Smith (guitarist from Sweet and Heaven & Earth) were in attendance. Kimball joined McAuley onstage for the encore, which included “One Way Ticket” from McAuley’s solo album, followed by a duet of UFO’s “Doctor Doctor.” The set concluded with Rod Stewart’s “Stay With Me” featuring a Bobby Kimball solo.

Summary: Robin McAuley has a strong track record as a former member of MSG and Elements of Friction, as well as a solo career on a few recent tribute albums. He remains on the scene that he has already highly profited from simply because he loves it. With a new project in the works called Bleed, there may very well be a resurgence of Robin McAuley fans.
