"Blind Eye Theory throws debut EP release party"

With new music, a new sound and new band name, Blind eye Theory holds its CD release party tomorrow (Saturday) night at the Boston Manor.

The band, which consists of brothers Mike and Mark Zdero (vocalist and bass guitarist, respectively), originally formed in 2006 when Paul Luedke, guitarist, wanted to start a new band focusing on metal rock.

Brian Pierce joined as drummer and the band, then known as Seize the Day, began performing.

After its first show playing cover songs, the band knew they had what it took to create its own original music. From then on, the foursome came together to write and hone their craft of song writing over the next five years.

“We had only been together three or four weeks when we first performed,” said Mike Zdero. “After that show, we took the time to write our own music as it was clear we enjoyed playing together.”

Now the band is releasing its debut EP under the band’s new name, Blind Eye Theory, as the music had evolved over the years from hard to modern rock.

“At first we were trying to emulate bands we liked,” explained Zdero. “As we became more comfortable in our song writing and had greater knowledge of song structure, we started to write based on what we thought was a good song. We had a broadening of inspiration, which affected our sound.”

Although the sound has become more melodic than the band’s original material, Zdero said the new music couldn’t be labelled as soft rock.

“It’s lighter than what we had been doing, but I wouldn’t call it light,” he said.

“We’ve pulled more structures from rock music and it’s more melodic with vocals, but we incorporate that into metal guitar and drums. We like the energy, how it’s fast paced and keeps you emotionally invested in songs. If you listen to it, a lot of metal has intricate music and instrumentation, so it’s very interesting to listen to.”

As the band’s music grew technically, their fan base grew as well.

“We’ve definitely seen it grow and have seen the impact from the change in our music,” noted Zdero.

“With the change, we’ve reached a wider range of people. We started to notice in the past year and a half that our fan base has grown. Refining the type of music we make and perfecting our performances did have an impact and it shows with our fan base.”

The band’s debut EP will be available tomorrow in hard copy and available online, in places such as iTunes, shortly.

Although hailing from Oakville, Zdero said the band chose to hold the release party in Burlington because of its music scene.

“We like the venues in Burlington,” he said.

“The Boston Manor is a great place to play and the music scene is a little more intense in Burlington. There is a bigger music scene.”

Doors open for tomorrow night’s show at 9 p.m. and the ticket price is $10.

Bio

In late January 2006 brothers Mark & Mike Zdero joined forces with Paul Luedke & Brian Pierce to form Seize The Day. After playing cover songs for their first show they started writing original music and have never looked back. Over the next five years the band gained experience and fans playing shows all around the Toronto area from The El Mocambo to The Opera House and The Sound Academy, and everything in between.

Over the years Seize The Day have been continuously growing as artists and their sound has matured as well; from highly erratic progressive metal, to verging on hardcore, into a modern hard rock that the band has lovingly dubbed Alt-Prog-Munk. With crushing guitar riffs, melodic vocals, roaring screams, and rocking rhythms, their music hits hard and keeps the intensity coming. Now, this 5-year legacy has culminated into one crushing debut EP. Afterwards the band felt they needed a new name to match their new, modern sound.
And with that Blind Eye Theory came into existence.

Moving forward, Blind Eye Theory is continuing to write new music and put on rocking shows. With plans for shows across southern Ontario, the band is heading out to bring their music to new fans. Blind Eye Theory is exploding onto the music scene with their self-titled EP available now.
