Exclusive Interview
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
All three of us were born and raised in South Boston, MA (better known as Southie). With growing up in a lower class neighborhood, we all used music to be the greatest escape of the reality around us. Clove began writing songs at the age of 12 and started recording at 13 on an mp3 player late nights in his bedroom. With a constant drive and passion for the business and entertainment side of the music industry he was always looking to broaden his horizons and network with artists even if they didn’t know they could make music yet. In his journey he was pointed out by a childhood friend to a few poems written by Point and began pestering him to start rapping, eventually he did. They recorded their first track together when Clove was 14 and Point being 16 at the time. With the death of his Mother at the age of 13 Point turned to poetry as an outlet and with the help of Clove eventually turned these writings into music. Working together many sleepless nights trying to attack the music industry at all angles they found themselves in several different groups and solo act attempts leading to the introduction of R&B Vocalist Markiss. Markiss began writing and recording with many local artists in the Boston Area in 2007. Markiss and Clove met each other at Soul Estate Recording Studios in South Boston and began collaborating that winter. After Clove was faced with a nearly fatal sickness, he convinced Markiss to contact Point to fill in for the shows he would miss while hospitalized. On the day he was released from the hospital he met up with the two at the studio and the pop/hip hop (Hip Pop) band “BLiSS” began in the Summer of 2009. The next two years we consistently focused on doing shows anywhere we could all over the Northeast United States, while constantly producing new music.
What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see?
We are currently working on our first release as a group entitled ‘BLiSS iS iT: The Mixtape’ which is due out in May. We’re recording this mixtape with Musicball Entertainment Studio, Nox Beatz, Sanctum Sounds and other producers nationwide, while filming our videos & doing our photo shoots with Bostown Entertainment Director/Writer Michael Yebba of the hit movie ‘The Town’ and Germano Silveira of ManoManiacal Productions.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
Financing is easily the hardest challenge we have faced and continue to face to this day. Between recording cost, music right leasings, promotional expenses and much more it gets tough being an independent group but its everything we want so we won’t let that bring us down.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
Our biggest set back was not being able to finance the expenses that come with being an independent group and trying to keep a steady buzz without being able to release new music. YouTube and Facebook would have to be our greatest fortune because we used that to stay relevant by releasing all kinds of videos (song remixes, live performances, partying etc) on a regular basis to help keep a steady following.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Artists have to be careful of putting themselves down and giving up after negative feedback regardless of who it comes from. There’s always going to be people who don’t like what you do and there’s ALWAYS room for improvement.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Be yourself. One of our biggest things is being ourselves in our music while some artists choose to portray who they’re not.
What are the best ways to sell your products as an artist?
Internet. The music industry used to be all about selling hard copies in stores, now everything has completely turned since the introduction of social networking and online music stores . Your online presence is everything these days.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Through live shows and interacting with our fans regularly. We like trying to be as close to friends as possible with all of our fans.

Since coming together in the summer of 2009 after years of being solo artists BLiSS has hit the ground running with catchy lyrics, captivating melodies and an electric live show. BLiSS has shared the stage with many popular artist such as La Coka Nostra (Formerly Known As “House of Pain), Donnie Klang (bad boy records), Hoodie Allen, Tayyib Ali, Cam Meekins & many more.
