Bio

We are Blue Light River, and we're writing from San Francisco, California. The Revelry Inn, our first album, is available on iTunes as of August 24th.

Blue Light River is an Americana band from Northern California. The group draws inspiration from the likes of Levon Helm, Gillian Welch, and also from contemporaries like The Deep Dark Woods and Jackie Greene. Recently, Blue Light River has performed at The Furthur Festival in Mountain Aire as well as local Marin venues including The Sleeping Lady and The Iron Springs Pub and Brewery.

Our group features Brian Lesh on vocals/guitar, Lindsay Brauner on vocals, Ross James on guitar/pedal steel, Scott Harvey on upright bass and Ray King on drums. Our members all come from musical backgrounds; Lindsay grew up singing in musicals, Ray's father plays drums in a band around San Francisco, Ross was born with a guitar in his hands, Scott often went to see his grandma sing in a church choir and Brian's dad is the bass player for the Grateful Dead. Blue Light River's first album, The Revelry Inn, is a collection of 5 songs, and captures our unique rootsy versatility.

We are very thankful that you took time to read our band bio, and our individual bios are below!

Sincerely,

Brian, Lindsay, Ross, Scott, and Ray

Scott Harvey- The tallest and youngest member of the band, Scott’s shy demeanor provides a stark juxtaposition with his confident mastery of the upright bass. The focus and dedication Scott gives to playing music are evident in the precision and flawless familiarity of his performance. However, Scott will not hesitate to be exploratory with bass riffs and creative opinions. Scott has been playing the bass for five years; in high school, he played in the same jazz band as Ray, where, combined with Brian Lesh, the two originally founded Blue Light River. Currently, Scott attends Brown University, and, as an electrical engineering major, often is able to interweave music and academics. He has taken classes in which he has learned to mix and create music. Recently, Scott put his musical talent to the test, and taught himself how to play the banjo in two days. Scott’s new instrumental skill can be heard throughout the entirety of the song “Snow and Rain.” Scott is an invaluable and thoughtful voice in Blue Light River’s development.

Brian Lesh- Juggling and excelling in numerous musical arenas, Brian is the force that makes the wheel of Blue Light River turn. In addition to writing the lyrics and music for each song, Brian plays guitar, harmonizes, sings, plays harmonica, and reviews Blue Light River’s compiled final products with a fine-toothed comb. How he fits in time to eat and sleep is an unsolved mystery, but impossibly enough he also attends Princeton University, where he is majoring in history. Brian has been playing guitar and writing music since the age of twelve, when he met Scott and Ray. Brian’s lyrics and musical arrangements reflect the thoughtful expertise of a musician seasoned beyond his years, as well as an ability to empathize with experiences and lifestyles of people living in different places and conditions than himself. Yes, Brian is the son of a musical legend, but in Blue Light River’s music and style, he has independently carved an identity for himself that is simultaneously influenced by and respectfully different than that of his father.

Lindsay Brauner- The 20 year old lead singer of Blue Light River joined the group in early 2009. Lindsay’s background is in musical theater, which she did professionally for all of middle school, and in semi-professional community theaters starting at age four. Lindsay has worked in extremely selective companies like Marin Shakespeare Company and The Mountain Play. In high school, she continued with theater, performing in the Laramie Project and directing her own one-acts. She now attends the University of California, Berkeley, where she is majoring in Classical Civilizations, and French, and is a writing tutor for Cal’s athletes. Lindsay also plays piano, which she has done since the age of six, and is currently teaching herself to play guitar. Because of her rigorous vocal training in musical theater and private coaching, Lindsay has a versatile and adaptable voice, and is capable of singing in a broad range of genres. Lindsay adds a creative and unique element to the group dynamic, as the only female in the group and an experienced singer.

Ray King- Upon meeting Ray, it is not hard to guess that his hard-edged and limitless energy lends itself to drumming. An acclaimed athlete, Ray’s tenacious determination is showcased in his drumming, and provides a flavorful counterpoint for the mellow style of certain Blue Light River originals. Ray is one of the three original members of the band, and has been playing drums since the age of five. Throughout high school, Ray was a member of the jazz band, whe
