BandAlternativePunk

Our brand of alternative/punk/indie rock is intelligent enough to get your mind going, energetic enough to get your feet going, and dynamic enough to get your cell phone going.

Biography

So, four more years of W? We say bring it on.

We, the five members of Blue Ribbon Envy, find ourselves in the bluest of blue states. Scattered around metro Boston, we had been floating to work and school on the euphoria expected after having your team win it all for the first time in 86 years. All of the late nights, late papers, and late ghosts meant nothing now that the impossible dream had been realized. Until that fateful Tuesday in November 2004, we were on cloud nine.

Our boy lost. We took it hard – cursing, pacing, the works. It was bad news for us, but even worse news for single mothers, independently owned radio stations, and civilians of any oil-rich country overseas. We stopped, we looked, we listened. We witnessed the resignation of America’s youth and found inspiration.

You see, it’s entirely possible that the best music of our short lifetimes will be written, produced, and performed in the coming years. An industry incensed by an administration will undoubtedly lead music to its most compelling form – true expression of the human experience. You can already feel it – labels staying away from bubblegum pop, radio stations turning off the asshole rock made famous by the Nickelback’s of the world – this is our chance to move the American musical landscape forward.

We’ve got a history, but it’s not as important as our future. Truth be told, we started this all by playing ska/punk for our college classmates back at the turn of the century. As our music evolved, we held onto the unrelenting energy that genre brings and refocused it towards a brand of indie rock for all audiences. The result is a sound that works for all ears and plays well with others. We aren’t trying to be anything, but we have definitely become something.

Our catalogue of 30+ touches on subjects ranging from hope to depression, suicide to starting over. Sure, there’s a fair amount of ‘boy meets girl’ pining as well, but we realize there’s more to life than failed relationships. When writing we tend to focus on thoughtful composition, harmony-rich hooks, dynamic sound, and driving energetic rock. Groundbreaking, we know.

We've been self-recording tracks for our upcoming release “This is American Music” – an EP of select demos that we’ve written, recorded, and produced since that eventful fall. This project has been entirely DIY but we know it can’t stay that way if we want to impact the number of people we’d like. We need your ears, your minds, and your support to make this happen. As we leap into a world we’re looking to change, we hope you’ll be by our side.

Lyrics

California with a 'K'

Written By: Blue Ribbon Envy

This house is filled with worries looks from a mom that tried as hard as she could; to make this angry house feel like home to a lonely only son who troubled her so. Then one day appeared a note, but not the one she feared. It said "Dear mom I've gone to california, I'll call when i get there."

Dear mom, thanks for all those things you said to me that made me who I am. It seems I turned out a little better than I could have, thanks in no small part to you.

Then one day appeard a note, but not the one she feared. It said "Dear mom, I've gone to california, I'll call when i get there."

I'll settle down and grow up. I'll fix my head with mountain air and guitar chords and I'll return.

This wont hurt me anymore, this will not hurt. I'll settle down and grow up. I'll fix my head with mountain air and guitar chords, and I'll return. Yes, I'll be coming back. Gonna fix my head with mountain air and guitar chords and I'll return.

Like It Or Not

Written By: Blue Ribbon Envy

“There’s a first for everything”
What a beautiful lie
Disbelief on that wooden floor
And I couldn’t even try

And will it ever hit me?
Will the truth ever set in?
A long drive and those faces
All brought me back and I know

Cause like it or not
You’ve gone somewhere
I can’t follow
Oh, please not you

And all of us down here
We’re still holding our breath
Can’t believe it’s true

Gathering of old and new
And some in between
Share in memories and photographs
And reminiscing

And then it really hit me
Then the truth really set in
A long drive and those faces
All brought me back and I know

Cause like it or not
You’ve gone somewhere
I can’t follow
Oh, please not you

And all of us down here
We’ll see you on the other side
And all of us down here
We sing cause this one is for you

All I wanted
Was a moment in time with you
Please forgive me for
My thoughts when I heard you left

Cause like it or not
You’ve gone somewhere
I can’t follow
Oh, please not you

And all of us down here
We’ll see you on the other side
And all of us down here sing

You were my one only savior
Thank you for you, yours forever.

En Fuego

Written By: Blue Ribbon Envy

And without a fight
You thought that you
Could get away
But it never went so far

And with the sound of an exhale
Cut through the betrayal
It's just enough to make me
Feel alright

And it'll burn just like before
And I don't see the point
I guess I'll have to let it burn
Look for a reason
And I'll look for one, too
But I got so lost, one time

So now it's in the open
Let's see you try to get out of it
Ands let's see you promise
To try harder

And I'll take my vengence
With my ball-point weapon
It's just enough to make me
Feel alright

And it won't burn me anymore
And I don't see the point
I guess I'll have to let it burn
Look for a reason
And I'll look for one, too
But I got so lost, one time
