Bio

So, four more years of W? We say bring it on.

We, the five members of Blue Ribbon Envy, find ourselves in the bluest of blue states. Scattered around metro Boston, we had been floating to work and school on the euphoria expected after having your team win it all for the first time in 86 years. All of the late nights, late papers, and late ghosts meant nothing now that the impossible dream had been realized. Until that fateful Tuesday in November 2004, we were on cloud nine.

Our boy lost. We took it hard – cursing, pacing, the works. It was bad news for us, but even worse news for single mothers, independently owned radio stations, and civilians of any oil-rich country overseas. We stopped, we looked, we listened. We witnessed the resignation of America’s youth and found inspiration.

You see, it’s entirely possible that the best music of our short lifetimes will be written, produced, and performed in the coming years. An industry incensed by an administration will undoubtedly lead music to its most compelling form – true expression of the human experience. You can already feel it – labels staying away from bubblegum pop, radio stations turning off the asshole rock made famous by the Nickelback’s of the world – this is our chance to move the American musical landscape forward.

We’ve got a history, but it’s not as important as our future. Truth be told, we started this all by playing ska/punk for our college classmates back at the turn of the century. As our music evolved, we held onto the unrelenting energy that genre brings and refocused it towards a brand of indie rock for all audiences. The result is a sound that works for all ears and plays well with others. We aren’t trying to be anything, but we have definitely become something.

Our catalogue of 30+ touches on subjects ranging from hope to depression, suicide to starting over. Sure, there’s a fair amount of ‘boy meets girl’ pining as well, but we realize there’s more to life than failed relationships. When writing we tend to focus on thoughtful composition, harmony-rich hooks, dynamic sound, and driving energetic rock. Groundbreaking, we know.

We've been self-recording tracks for our upcoming release “This is American Music” – an EP of select demos that we’ve written, recorded, and produced since that eventful fall. This project has been entirely DIY but we know it can’t stay that way if we want to impact the number of people we’d like. We need your ears, your minds, and your support to make this happen. As we leap into a world we’re looking to change, we hope you’ll be by our side.
