Biography

Hailing from the antique whaling-port city of New Bedford, MA, revelatory rock outfit BLUES BASTARD are a young, hard rocking, unpredictably unhinged Rockandroll riff riot of authentically vintage proportions. They are a feral, uncultured Neo-garage vagabond throwback, featuring a studiously concentrated cross-pollination of dizzying sonic influence and spontaneously explosive social anarchy mixed with an absolutely contemporary possession with all that is still essential about the last great flesh ritual of a true American Rockandroll experience. The driving force and magnetic ability of BLUES BASTARD is that they delve mercilessly into what so many modern rock outfits have forgotten, the black art of charismatically intuitive live performance. They are ordained by a thunderous homage of classical rock influence, truly born to rip, studying at the hard-fought altar of such bands as MC5, THE MOONEY SUZUKI, THE HIVES, THE DATSUNS and THE DOORS. They mix the mysogenistically devious vacuum of birthright Punk, the threateningly vicious pulse of unrelenting stage presence and the mythic posturing and philosophical avoidance of a dark medium revered by so many and mastered by so few. BLUES BASTARD features the fiercely defined, perverse nuance and staccato thump of Wayne Stash on drums, the bluesy riff-thief scratch wail of Vint Victrola on the axe, the rhythmic and tempered weaving low end thrust of Robby Leaver on the bass, the hypnotic Leslie cabinet divinity of Jackson Grams on the keys led by the furiously electric Mitch Winston, an organically developed frontman with a wildly expressive screeching vortex voice and a hot blooded, self-centered pathic sexuality who becomes a shifting marvel when unleashed and anchored to the mic, caterwauling in languages all his own; his thin, bent frame and untamed persona disintegrating the oppressive line between performer and audience. BLUES BASTARD have pillaged and conquered everything from sweaty, drunk basements to some of the most respected stages across the East Coast; including Providence’s MET CAFÉ and NYC’s KNITTING FACTORY amongst countless others. Once you have witnessed BLUES BASTARD, you quickly realize that the stage is the natural habitat of this relentlessly talented outfit; they have a deeply instinctual understanding of the shamanistic, elemental power of Rockandroll presentation. They are also represented by a startlingly pure, self produced and self-titled EP which THE PROVIDENCE PHOENIX heralded as “…an experience we would liken to sticking your face above the windshield of a convertible careening down a slippery interstate…a righteous, wild ride…” Through rigorous performing and promotion, BLUES BASTARD have deftly converted countless fans and continue to tirelessly spread their presence of unfiltered Rockandroll menace whenever they grace a stage. They have also strategically cultivated a strong online awareness and a dedicated fanbase eager to bring the word to the streets, loyally following the band from gig to gig, screaming the lyrics and trampling eachother in the throes of a vacant and physical celebration of Rockandroll ecstasy. BLUES BASTARD are paving the road towards the future of this undying medium by capably clinging to the revered influence of the past while dominating the esthetic current of the present creating what TWEAK MAGAZINE has called “…Rockandroll as it should be: Loud, proud and naked….” "By: Paul Hullabaloo"
