"Blues Forgotten leaves a lasting memory in Auburn"

Quixote's was packed from deck to deck Friday night as the Asheville based-band Blues Forgotten rocked the house down.
A rare, highly-prized combination, great playmanship and sheer entertainment converge with Blues Forgotten, making them a band for both the scrutinizing musician and the average Joe just looking for a beer and a good time.
Their original music defies conventional categorization. An Alice in Chains heavy rock number might seamlessly flow into a relaxed bluesy jam, melt back into grunge, and then groove into reggae. By not confining themselves to one style, these guys are able to reach deeper levels of creativity, all the while attracting a diverse fan base. They put on the perfect live show for even the pickiest, most A.D.D. listener.
The influence of rock greats Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Derek Trucks are apparent in Dave Brown's and Paul Songy's guitar playing. Energy and inspiration, so thick they're nearly visible, trade even with each solo exchanged between the two men.
Charismatic, confident, and cheeky, Don Bodie is the ideal frontman. His vocals didn't leave pitch for a second either performance. And in very un-diva fashion, he steps off of stage during instrumentals to give undivided attention to the rest of the band.
Mark Shaeffer and Joe Cain (both drums/percussion) keep show levels high with a driving pulse guaranteed to make you want to move. Percussion instruments like Don's clave (Spanish pronunciation clah'vay) and Joe's timbales provide extra musical depth, and heavily contribute to the band's multi-layered, world influenced sound. Rounding out the rhythm section in Shane Snyder, whose bass licks hold their own while bringing it all together.
Like me, many people just couldn't get enough of Blues Forgotten during Friday's show, so we followed them to Bodega for a second helping Saturday, and thank God we did; or else we'd missed a rare guest performance by "Brown Sabbath," Dave's one-man band rock alter-ego.
The two-night stand ended with an all out superjam as Blues Forgotten Brought locally based-band Sterno to the stage. Both bands pulled out all the stops and just let to rock, jazz, and funk flow. The crowd was feelin' it and really got down for the last one!
