Bio

Bluestreak was formed in the fall of 2003. The band members came from various backgrounds of country, rock, old time and gospel. The name of the band actully came from the fact that we enjoy different genres of music but each of us had a streak of bluegrass through us. We loved the way acoustic instruments could create the full band sound from the strong rythms of the acoustic guitar and bass, the percusion of the mandolin chop and the crisp leads of the banjo and fiddle. We didn't want to be just another bluegrass band playing the same old songs. We wanted to try songs that may not have even been considered by other bluegrass bands. Our music is made up of mostly original songs of our own and other local songwriters. The song themes are usually of a folk, roots, country, or spiritual nature. Everytime we play to a new audience we meet people who are so pleased to hear new and different songs. Many fans before they heard us didn't care for bluegrass because it all sounded the same but they really enjoy our sound. When we play live shows we want the audience to have fun with us and feel at ease. When we're on stage the sound is only half the show. What people see is just as important. If we're having fun, they'll have fun. We make sure though that what they hear on our cd's and what they hear live will be the same. We record our material with live replication in mind. Bluestreak has performed at festivals all across Eastern Canada. We have seven Prince Edward Island Music awards and two East Coast Music Award nominations. At the 2006 East Coast Music Awards we were selected to showcase in the popular Roots Room.
