Bio

Blue Willa are Serena Altavilla on vocals, Mirko Maddaleno on guitar, Lorenzo Maffucci on bass and Graziano Ridolfo on drums. The band was formed as Baby Blue in September 2004, but the current lineup has existed since September 2010 and, due to the drastic evolution of their sound, they have become Blue Willa in 2012.
In 2006 the band had their first feedback from the music press when reviewers started writing about their edgy self-titled debut EP.

Their first full length album. "Come!" was released in 2009: "It's like a firework, a collection of some very different songs that we've been writing throughout our first years". The 13 songs on the album mix rock, blues, pop and folk, and convey a contagious feeling of spontaneity and freshness, which is empowered by the unpredictable opposition between melodies and electricity, between the sweetness of Serena's voice - that switches and overlaps with Mirko’s - and the edginess of the music: "Our sound is determined by the intersection of instruments, which creates an alternation between 'piano' and 'forte'. We also love the double male-female vocals, especially when the two voices take different directions". The choice of singing in English supports an international sound: "Our influences come mostly from non-Italian bands; the English language, which we use in a simple and somehow peculiar way, allows us to get the sound of the words before their meaning. Moreover, it lets our music travel outside our country."

September 2010 brought "We Don't Know", their second album, published by the Italian label Trovarobato. The 10 songs on “We Don’t Know” reveal many differences from the past: a punk-esque "do it yourself" mood, new sounds that are rougher, as well as darker and enigmatic atmospheres. "The result is very close to the deepest soul of the band."

Blue Willa hail from Tuscany, though they could just as easily have formed overseas. This four-piece band tries to overcome the worn and stale Italian ways of popular music by blending a breathtaking rock sound with black and white elements evenly collected from blues and punk, and wrapping their music with plain, visionary words. All of their records to date - two albums and one EP - were supported with constant touring and high impact shows. Their intense touring schedule has also included shows at Puerto de Santa Maria (Monkey Week Festival) and Bilbao in Spain, as well as being the opening act for international artists such as Micah P. Hinson and Carla Bozulich. Their debut full-length album as Blue Willa is due to be released in 2012.

In complete control of their abilities, Blue Willa explode on stage at the top of their potential, between minimalism, neurotic detours and an extremely playful attitude.
