BandJazzFunk

A funkalicious menagerie of danceable delights. The main course is solid funk, lightly seasoned with blues and garnished with jazz. If it doesn't make you want to tap your toes, then you've got no feet.

Biography

A blues guitarist with a penchant for Stevie Ray Vaughan, a singer who grew up squeezed between Smoky Robinson and James Brown, a funky bass schooled in jazz but with a heart full of soul, and a drummer whose heart beats only on two and four. This funky foursome set out on a musical journey that left nightclubs strewn with exhausted dancers, women swooning and men threatening violence for the way the women swooned.

Something about the groove attracted Dino and Dan, the dynamic duo whose horns hit harder than a hippo with a hare lip. (OK, they're jazz school trained but we can't hold that against them, these guys are good!).

Not long after they were joined by a wandering hippie with a hammond, (by the rather suspicious name of Potsy Webber) and the sound was complete! A solid backbone of funk, with the occasional hernia of jazz, blues and rock oozing out between the ribs.

Lyrics

Where Would We Be?

Written By: Stephen Myers

OOh...
When it all just looks too hard,
Don't give up!

When it seems the world's gone mad and you feel like crying out
You wan't to change the way things are but you are filled with doubt
You don't like what you see, but you think you've got no choice.
You don't think the world will change it's tune for just one lonely voice,
Use what's been given you!
Do what you have to do!
Look after what's around you, that's the place to start
The world's in bigger hands
And you must understand
The world is just the sum of it's parts: six billion beating hearts.

Where would we be if Martin Luther King didn't have a dream?
Where would we be if Ghandi stayed in England sipping tea?
Where would we be if Einstein thought it was a relatively bad idea?
Where would we be if Jesus Christ did not drink from the cup?

"I want to give it up.
Much too bitter for me.
Oh can't you see they want to nail me to that tree,
Wouldn't you agree?
It all just looks too hard"

As each word dances off the tongue it takes on a life of its own.
There's no telling as the years have passed how much each word has grown
Like ripples on a pond that spread across the ocean,
And the delicate flutter of a butterfly's wings can set the storm in motion.

Where would we be if The Beatles had decided to play jazz?
Where would we be if Mr Bell decided not to ring?
Where would we be if the Wrights had a fear of heights?
Where would we be if Dr Seuss never gave his cat a hat?

Would you be in a bar?
Would you be in a car?
You wouldn't be in the air.
Would you be anywhere?
Where would you be?

The only thing that's needed for evil to succeed
Is for the rest to acquiesce and let the darkness breed.
So be thankful for the voices when all hope had seemed gone,
That prayed and cried and bled and died
'til other voices joined the song.

Where would we be if Martin Luther never nailed his notice up?
Where would we be if Ghandi stayed in England sipping tea?
Where would we be if Mandella had decided to give up?
Where would we be? Where would we be would we be, would we be?
Where would we be if Mother Theresa said there are just too many poor?
Where would we be if Van Gough never painted yellow things?
Where would we be if Jesus Christ did not drink from the cup?
Where would we be if they all gave up?

New Groove

Written By: Tim Begbie

Give me one, until the giving's done
Give me two, I'll give you something new
Give me three, it's what you need.
Give me one, two, three, four! I can't take no more!

It's a new, new, new groove.
It's a new, new, new groove.
It's a new, new, new, groove.

I Can't stand still, I've got to move.
Can't stand it, this funky groove.
Gotta get on up! I want to scream!
Can't stand it! This funk machine.
It's so hot but I can't put it down
And it's not just the same old sound.
Relief when it's amplified! Good grief man! soul power applied.

It's a new new groove...

You I Need

Written By: Stephen Myers

Verse 1

Well it’s you I want, and it’s you I need
Come on over baby, bring it all around now, bring it on back to me.
Well it’s you I need, and it’s you I got
I know baby when I got you that I have got the lot

Chorus

‘Cause it’s you I want and it’s you I need
Come on over baby, bring it all around now, bring it on back to me
(Now baby) your love drives me wild!
(Come on now) bring it home now child!
Come on now bring it on back, bring it on back, bring it on back, bring it on back.
Now! Now! Now!

Verse 2

Not to the Left, nor to the Right.
Gonna walk on home down the straight and narrow, come home and hold you tight
‘Cause it’s you I want
And baby I got you.
When I’m away there’s an elastic band
Snap me back to you.

Chorus

Extra bit on end of Chorus

‘Cause it’s you I want,
And it’s you I need.
Oh yes indeed!

Verse 3

Well it’s you I want, and it’s you I got.
When I’m with you I never feel the cold ‘cause your love babe is hot.
Well it’s you I want, and it’s you I need.
Well you blow me a kiss, and it’s bliss little miss, and it brings me to my knees

Chorus plus extra bit again.

Pick Yourself Up

Written By: Steve Myers

Pick Yourself Up

Verse 1

Hey there baby why do you sit with your face held in a frown?
Noone ever got nowhere, no time, by looking down.
So pick yourself up off the ground and keep on moving on
And one by one you'll find all your troubles, all your troubles will soon be gone.
Hey there baby why do you sit with your face held in a frown?
Stop looking down.

Chorus:
Don't hide your face from Love:
Don't wrap your heart in sadness.
You've got to throw those tear-wet blankets off
And wrap your heart in gladness.
Don't hide your face from Love:
Don't wrap your heart in sadness.
You've got to throw those tear wet blankets off
And wrap your heart in gladness.
Pick Yourself up off the ground... and look around.

Verse 2

Hey there baby why do you sit with your face held in your hands?
You think you're in trouble deep and noone understands.
Well nothing has befallen you uncommon to the troubles of man
So pick yourself up off the ground because, because you can.
Hey there baby why do you sit with your face held in your hands?
Understand!

Repeat Chorus

Verse 3

Aaaaaaah don't do it!
Aaaaaaah don't do it!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah don't throw your life away!
Don't throw your life away!
Don't throw your life away!
Pick yourself up off the ground.

Only for You

Verse 1

If only I could touch your hand,
If only I could reach you somehow
And try to help you understand
How I long to be..

Chorus
Only for You
Only for You
Only for You
Only for You.

Verse 2

If only you could read my mind,
If only I could reach you somehow
You'd be surprised at what you'd find:
How I long to be

Repeat Chorus

Verse 3

I know that you've been hurt.
I know that you have cried a salty tear
But this can work,
Because I long to be...
